Up for auction is an antique spelter art deco circus themed electric table lamp depicting an elephant. A clown and a cowboy on horseback. The elephant and the clown are on each side of a large drum. In the center of the drum is the cowboy on horseback. This lamp is in good working order. I believe the shade and cord are both original. The spelter is quite brittle. There is a piece of it broken off on the back where the cord comes out of the lamp. There is a black bakelite switch on the cord. The drum is also becoming detached from the lamp(as shown in photos) There is a small bruise to the corner of the shade(shown in last photo) Lamp(shade included) measures 14' high and 9 1/2' wide. STONE possing in 1940 in front of what appears to be the ZILDJIAN CYMBALS factory.photo is 5 x 7" and has an AMERICAN STUDIOS 1940 stamp on back.George Lawrence Stone was born in 1886. He was the son of drum teacher and manufacturer George Burt Stone. George Lawrence learned drums and xylophone from his father and also helped out in his shop. Where the elder Stone tucked drumheads, turned drumsticks, made wooden foot pedals and sold violins. If I have had my share of success in teaching others, George Lawrence wrote in the November 1, 1946 bulletin of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers, its origin was in the way my father taught me, and in his counsel, so often repeated: If you accept a pupil you accept a responsibility. In one way or another ... moreyou've got to go through with him. There's no alibi if you don't. George Lawrence also studied with Harry A. Bowers and Frank E. Dodge. Learned timpani from Oscar Schwar of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and studied music theory at the New England Conservatory of Music. Stone joined the musicians union at age 16, becoming its youngest member. In 1910 he was a xylophonist on the Keith Vaudeville Circuit, and he played timpani and bells with the Boston Festival Orchestra. Stone played in the pit of Boston's Colonial Theater under the baton of Victor Herbert, and was a member of the Boston Opera Orchestra for five years. After George B. Stone's death in 1917. George Lawrence ran his father's drum factory and became principal of the Stone Drum and Xylophone School in Boston. He also wrote articles on drumming technique for International Musician and Jacob's Orchestra Monthly. Stone was a founding member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers(NARD) which began in 1933, and served as its president for fifteen years. This double-dot 10-gallon drum dates back to the 1940s and is a prized piece of Pepsi memorabilia. Stoddard lists it as C+ on the rarity scale(p. 259 of the Pepsi Field Guide) There just aren't a whole lot of these left out there. And certainly not in this nice a condition. You'll see from the pictures that it has some rust spots, small dents and scratches, but they only add to the authenticity of this vintage 17x15 concentrate drum. This item is NOT overpriced! Up for auction is a Gretsch Round Badge 8 lug 4157 snare drum in Midnight Blue Pearl. There is 1 extra hole under the strainer to accommodate a Yamaha strainer. I switched it out for a new Maxwell strainer[really nice! The edges are smooth and look like typical RB edges. Tone control and key holder are intact. There is a tiny amount of seam lift on the bottom[easily fixable] Paper tag is present and clean. The hoops and lugs have some wear. But overall this drum is in good shape. Vintage Fibes Black Acrylic Drum Set
I am selling my old Fibes Black acrylic kit circa 1973-74 square badge. I have had the kit since new. The shells are clear acrylic made by the Comco Plastics company in Farmingdale NY which supplied Fibes back then and were sprayed black on the inside for the gloss black finish. Over the years they have been touched up inside. After getting tired of the uniball mount slipping and having zero memory positioning I upgraded to a Tama Bass drum tom mount. The uniball is still on the tom tom. As mentioned before I used the drums for many years so there are scrapes and scuffs. There are no cracks in the shells. I just changed the tom batter heads to brand new Ambassadors as well as the front bass head. The logo on the bass head is just tacked on for photo purposes. I cut it out of the original front head which had a giant hole cut out for the port ... moreand had ripped. All the leg mounts work properly. The Tama holder is not included. I simply cannot find it. Fibes was not known for their chrome plating and the hardware has pitting on it as pictured. The sizes are: 14x24 Bass drum 9x13 mounted tom 16x16 floor tom 16x18 floor tom The drums sound great. Joseph was a well known tympani player in European Orchestras. This drum had been in the Ludwig family ever since. Vintage African Tic Toc SPIN DRUM Kenya Goatskin & Wood Toy Instrument
This auction is for a vintage(this is not 100 yrs. but I would estimate it to be 20 or 30 yrs old) Made in Kenya spin drum. The label says it is made of goatskin. Wood, PVC Pipe(I see no pipe) and sissal string. I assume this was sold as a souvenir of Kenya. It is 18 3/4" long and 6 3/4" round. The goatskin has a small hole on one side. It has some age discoloration. It is in great working order. It is a nice example of an African cultural drum. Ask any questions. Thanks!
