This piece weighs approx 765 grams or 1.7 pounds give or take a couple of grams or ounces. According to my research. This is a rare, hard, blue-grey, transition metal. Highly resistant to corrosion and occurs naturally in the mineral tantalite and is always together with chemically similar niobium. It is part of the refractory metals group and used as minor component in alloys. The chemical inertness of tantalum makes it a valuable substance for laboratory equipment and a substitute for platinum. It is also used in the medical industry to make human joints. Tantalum is.
