Up for bid one Vintage STAR S-Handle Nickel Plated Brass Fly Reel w/2:1 Multiplier- unmarked as to manufacturer. But identified as being manufactured by the STAR REEL WORKS, Birmingham, Ct. through online articles identifying the patented foot design, S-handle, and simple handle knob. This reel is constructed of nickel plated brass with raised pillars. There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition. The S-handle has a wood knob. This reel has the handle oriented in the S-handle orientation, not the reverse S-handle. It is the same basic handle as other Star reels, just flipped. There are no screws used to assemble this reel except two for the front cover and one for the handle, all other fastening is through peened tabs. Overall it is in good condition except almost all the plating is missing(see ... morephotos) It measures 2-11/16" diameter. 2-3/4" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-7/16" long by 9/16" wide. Vintage WINCHESTER No. 4256 Nickel Plated Cast. Reel w/ 4:1 Multiplier- 80 yards
I have for bid a nice old vintage WINCHESTER Nickel Plated Casting Reel with functioning click button and drag dial. It looks to be geared to 4:1 and is an 80 yard line capacity reel. Winchester Repeating Arms Company purchased the reel manufacturing equipment from Hendryx around 1920 and you will sometimes find reels that are identical but marked either Hendryx or Winchester. I would estimate late 1920's vintage on this reel. The reel is nickel-plated over brass. There is some brass showing through the plating in a few spots around the rim edges. Check out the pictures) The button on the back plate controls the click and the knurled dial on the front rim controls the drag. Both are operational. Reel is a little noisy when cranked but is still a very mechanically sound reel. The knob on handle appears to be ivory colored plastic or bakelite. ... moreThe face plate is marked" WINCHESTER. TRADE MARK. MADE IN U.S.A. 4256" It is also marked"PATENTED OCT 12. 1920" and"MAR. 22, 1921" on the face plate. The reel measures 1-15/1 inches in diameter. And 2 inches wide(not counting the handle/knob and is about 3-1/2 inches wide from back plate to knob tip.
