Dorothy Thorpe Dorothy Thorpe ran a decorating studio in Los Angeles from the 1930s to the 1960s. She didn't produce her own glass. But rather, like a number of companies at the time, bought her blanks from a glass company and decorated them for retail. The techniques she used were pretty much limited to sand carving(sand blasting) and sterling silver, gold and platinum. Her decorations were clean, crisp and modern. I love this piece because of the primitive look and the safety of using a candle with the shield. I don't know how old it is but I would say vintage at least. There is rust in the bottom around where the candle sits. It has the nice crimped design around the bottom. It measures 5 1/2" across the bottom crimped edges and it stands 12 1/2" high. So very primitive candle box/roughly made. Nice one & shape.
What a great old very cruedly made primitive candle box. There is damage where the hole to hang it is. I would suggest leaving and using a different hanger type hook on the back. Just a suggestion. I like the design of the piece. The pointed back and the front where they cut it out and the two pieces to make the front. There is a divided space where the two pieces of wood met. Then you took small pieces of wood and nailed across the front. I don't think you could get more primitive than this. It measures 5 1/2 across the front, 3 1/2 deep on the sides and the back is 9 3/4" tall. The sides have a little curve in the design. Pair S. Kirk & Son 12.5" Weighted Sterling 3 Candle Candelabras candle-sticks ++
Here are two S. Kirk and Sons Candleabaras. They are about 12 1/2" tall when they're assembled as they've always been. But I am adding another pair of inserts which are shown in the 2nd and 9th photos. The other inserts fit the candleabara but are probably not from Kirk and Sons. Still. You can have lots of ways to set up these candlesticks. The two inserts would add over 2" more to the height of the middle pieces, but we've never used it that way at home. S. Kirk and Sons were a Baltimore company that started in 1815. I think these date from before World War II. The company history is on-line and it seems that they were not the same company after the war. But I can't be sure. These are really old and used, and have a few small dings, but they're not beaten up. I hope you can see that from the photos I took this ... moremorning. The arms on one could use a little straightening so the candles on the ends would sit straighter and the candlestick would be wider, but I'm not adept enough to even make an attempt. I hope they go to someone who will keep them in the family or use them for a very nice gift. I hope they are not just smashed up for scrap silver.These are better than that! The candlesticks are now packed in a light box with bubble wrap and the box weighs over six pounds. All three pieces do have the same wheel engraved decoration so we can safely assume that they have always been together as a set.  The edges of all three pieces are wheel engraved with elegant flower garland pattern. Hopefully the pictures captured the details well enough.Overall condition on all pieces is very good with no chips or cracks to make note of. I have noticed that one of the candle holders has an air bubble near the top edge.so its a bit rough.
