Check out the rest of our auction for more from the same estate. We are not techs. We sell all this sort of thing"as is" described to the best of our ability. This came from a gentlemans shop who was in radio repair for years. He has long since retired and claims that this unit worked fine the last time he used it. I recognize this as a type of variac. But know nothing else about it. Has been sitting around in a dusty environment for years and is dusty and dirty. I do not know how to test it, but the shaft does turn freely and smoothly. I see that the windings just to the left of the bare area, in the vicinity of terminal 4, are a slightly darker color. I have tried to show this in the pictures. No knob or dial. The brown plastic/bakelite around the shaft is chipped or chewed up. The applied decal with hookup instructions is chipped and not intact. Cenco? Variac AutoTransformer Variable Power Supply Works
This is a used Cenco Central Scientific Co Variac AutoTransformer Variable Power Supply. I actually do not know if this is indeed made by Cenco as it has no markings or labels but the tag on the cord I can just make out"CEN" and I obtained it with a large lot of mostly Cenco Powerstat transformers. It has a molded grey plastic case that has a few minor scratches. The 3-prong grounded power cord is in great shape. The front has an on-off switch. Variable level control, 3-prong grounded outlet and the fuse. I do not know the what output amperage this is but the fuse that in it is rated at 1 amp. I tested the output voltage levels and it starts at about 15 volts and ranges up to about 117 volts. This would be nice for a low cost variac and would be easier to use than using an inline light bulb(s) My partner and I have recently acquired ... morethe stock of a recently closed radio. What I have here is a DMY5000-3E-B 15.000 watt light control dimmer. It is made by Superior Electric Company. It includes 3 D5000B Luxtrol 5000 watt dimmers for a total wattage of 15KW. They are all three connected to a single control motor which brightens and dims all 3 dimmers simultaneously. Each dimmer is rated at 120volts and 41.6 amps. So in essence, you could control 150 100watt light bulbs. I have fully tested this unit and it works flawlessly. All you need to control this unit is a SPDT switch or a momentary up and down switch. The unit does not include the lights or all the wiring that is connected to it. I just temporarily hooked it up to make sure it worked properly. All voltage measurements taken between the different dimmers were always within.5 volts of each other so it is timed pretty well. Large Superior Electric Powerstat 22 Amp x 2 Autotransformer / Variac
Powerstat Dual Gang Variable Autotransformer Superior Electric Model Powerstat 136B-2 as seen in the photos. Electrically this unit works fine. It has two sections, each one rated at 22 amps/ 3.2 kVA at 120V in and 0-140V out at 50/60hz. Please see the photos for physical condition of this item. It shows normal wear and tear use, nothing excessive. You can see that the windings are in good condition and that there is plenty of meat left on the brushes. I've replaced the old steel spacer hardware with new hardware, a bakelite insulator was cracked and replaced with black FR4 as shown in the photos. One alignment pin was replaced with a new pin. I originally reconditioned this item and set up the hardware to be panel mounted with 4 bolts for a high current power supply project, but decided to go with a different design that doesn't ... moreuse an autotransformer so now this is surplus to my needs. Up for auction today is a 3 phase Variac 1 part Powerstat and 2 parts Luxtrol. This is a 50 amp variable transformer. The top unit is the Powerstat. We fully tested these and there are no dead spots in any of the 3 units. They all measured between 120.2-120.6 VAC at full throttle. On the bottom unit you can see a spot where a short has occured before(as pictured) This short did not damage the variac as it is in good working condition. The whole units dimensions are 18X14X31. This is a used Superior Electric Powerstat Model 116 Variac AutoTransformer Variable Power Supply. It also has a Harshaw Scientific label on it. It has a beautiful black crinkle finish that is very steam punk. It is rated at 7.5 amps. It has a 2-prong cord and outlet. This unit tested as working and voltages measure with digital volt meter from 0 to 145V. It is in excellent condition with very minor wear. This would be excellent for use on a test bench or simply for display. My partner and I have recently acquired the stock of a recently closed radio.
