With an oval area in the center that is unmonogrammed, but could be with your own initials, if desired. The bristles are in great condition, with very little loss, if any, and are securely attached. There are a few very minor scratches here and there around the edge, and may need a little shining up. This brush measures: 5 5/8" long x 1 5/8" wide. The bristles are about 1 5/8" long. This is from my own collection. I really dont want to sell but times are tuff so here goes. Kerr was established in 1855, I't was purchased by Gorham in 1906, then in 1927 gorham moved them to providence, RI where they were dissolved, So this had to have been made before 1927. It has 3 compartments, the makers mark and# plus sterling are at the money clip behind mirror. I't had it's ss pencil with the lead inside, the chain shows no wear, all hinges are tight also the clasp. there is one dent that is a little hard to find. It's on the backside just feel for it, it's a lot easier. the bidding is only 3 days. I't took me awhile to find this one. I dont use polish on it just a silver clothe that its always wrappped in. This is an antique sterling silver belt buckle produced by William Kerr. It was sold in the early 1900s and typical of art nouveau repousse design in USA. This is the smaller(but not smallest) size which measures approximately 3 3/8 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches high. I believe that these were made in 3 different sizes- large. Medium and small. I am pleased to offer this magnificent Art Nouveau Chatelaine Brooch circa 1895-1900. It was made by the William B. Kerr Co. This company was highly regarded for their Art Nouveau jewelry and commands very high prices. It is hallmarked with the Kerr logo as seen in photos. This piece is large measuring approx. 3" around the domed surface and a bit over 2-1/2" across the surface and approx. 1-1/2" high. Across the highest point. It weighs 12 grams. The design is superb with the characteristic undulating lines and scrolls of the Nouveau period with a pair of stylized coiled serpents on either side. The piece was originally designed with hanging chains to be used as a chatelaine. Three of the hooks are still on the back and one is missing. I am sure the owner used it as a lovely brooch after chatelaines became obsolete. It could ... morebe refurbished if so desired by attaching old sterling chains to the loops. It is a rare. Victorian Sterling 2 Cherub Floral Belt or Sash Slides Kerr?
After doing research and speaking with others I believe these to belt or sash slides. There is no evidence that it was ever a buckle, no solder marks where a clasp may have been. They could also have been worn around the neck slid on to a velvet ribbon which was popular during the period. Center cherub or angel with floral wreath, both signed sterling. Senator McCarthy and Jean adopted a daughter. Who seems to be the main focus of thee photos. She was adopted in Jan of 1957. McCarthy died in May that same year. Three studio photos from Londonderry- as you see them. We are about to put up a few old Irish CDVs. Remember that some of these could be exceptionally rare as they are coming from lesser known small provincial studios. Travel was difficult in 19th century Ireland. So we can be fairly certain that these studio photographs are of people from the area in question. These should be VERY collectable and they are certainly at the right price! Original Authentic Over 100 Years Old Studio Photograph/card. Old Irish Photographs and Studios Francis Beatty. An engraver from Belfast, was a pioneer in photography. He announced in the"Northern Whig" on August 6th 1840, that he had made a"photogenic drawing" or"calotype" of Belfast's Long Bridge. The process known as the"Talbotype" was the first time a paper negative ... moreproduced a positive image on paper. The first commercial studios were opened in Dublin in October 1841. The number of studios existing in Dublin between 1850 and 1870 increased from twelve to over sixty. Competition was fierce. Many of the firms that opened in the early 1860s lasted less than one year in business. Partnerships were continually being formed and dissolved. Studios were vying with each other in the variety of services offered. Jacolette of 40 Westmoreland Street were offering photographic Christmas gifts in the form of brooches, lockets, scarf pins, and rings. They added that the weather was no impediment to the taking of portraits! The Dublin Photographic& Philosophical Institution was one of the first Dublin studios to use artificial light in the form of magnesium powder. Wm B.Kerr Sterling Silver Mirror & Brush Dresser Vanity Set 1904
Both pieces are hallmarked Sterling. An axe(for Wm B. Kerr) 1717(pattern# Both pieces are monogrammed Addie 1904. Both pieces have a very dark black sterling patina. These will polish up beautifully if you so desire. The hairbrush bristles are broken and missing plugs. The sterling handle tip is squashed but there are no sharp edges. The rest of the frame is in amazing shape no splits or holes. The sterling part of the mirror is also in amazing shape with only three small soft dents on one side of the frame. The rest of the sterling design of high repousse flowers and vines is beautiful with no holes or splits. The bevelled mirror is the sad part. I left this on the table in the sun to take pictures and a friend stopped over and distracted me for an hour. When I came back I found the silvering on the backside had melted and pulled away in ... moreplaces leaving a pattern almost like a chinese tree. I wanted to cry! Description This is a stunning art noveau period sterling silver vanity set by the William B. Kerr Company. The designs of the Art Nouveau period featured motifs of women with long flowing hair. Angels and cherubs, fairies or sprites, animals(dragonflies being of particular popularity) naturalistic foliate designs, flowers and scroll work. The worlds of naturalism and fantasy were often combined. This period was characterized in part by its repoussé designs. This set consists of three pieces including a hand mirror. Hairbrush, and comb. Unlike the American Beauty Series pattern‘1447’ which contains Gibson Girl style women’s heads. This pattern, 2000’ contains wonderfully detailed full body lovely maiden designs.
