I purchased this set back in the 70's with intentions of notching prongs in order to set my own stones-but really never used it. I may have tested out a couple of the smaller burs once. But I decided to use Tripp's pre-notched mountings instead. The set is vertually like new. I don't have any other literature on it, but I think the company said that the burs were solid carbide. The shanks are 1/8" or 3.18mm in diameter. The burs come with a nice little hardwood stand inside the original Raytech box. Set or 8 Druse Surgical Bits/Burs in Small Wooden Case, Made in Germany, 1940's
You are viewing and bidding on a set of 8 Druse surgical bits/burs complete with a small wooden hinged case with clasp. My father was a dentist who served in a medical corp. with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. Including the D-Day invasion at Normandy. I presume that he got these during his time there as they were found in his WWII Army trunk along with other items from his service in the Army. Each bit/bur is about 1 3/4 inches long and has a shaft that is approximately 3/32 inch in diameter. The bur tips range from about 1/16 inch across to 1/4 inch across. The are in good vintage condition although I would not want anyone performing surgery on me with these. There is rust on one of the shafts. The wooden case might be more interesting than the burs and bits. It measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches deep by 2 1/4 inches tall and has"Druse" ... morecarved and painted into the lid. German Surgical Burs" has been handwritten by my father. The case is sturdily built with two metal hinges in the back and a metal clasp in the front. Even the clasp has detailed scrollwork. The paint on the box is chipped and soiled but the box construction and function is very good. I am not sure whether these are for dentistry(oral surgery) or for use in other non-dental medical procedures but they make a very interesting collectible. Either way.
