To rectify the situation he rapidly published a series of volumes, thus we find some variances in the imprints here. Each of the volumes is housed in a gilt bordered thick leather(almost vellum) hardcoverw ith a gitl border; the spines with mottled gilt desigsn and corcular title lables. There are numerous detached boards ... morehere, although some remain intact. One volume lacks a front board. Spines with varying levels of wear, as shown, some with loss, some starting to detach. All page edges gilt. Each volume with plates, frontispieces and many engraved titles as well. All very early editions, some possibly firsts. Worthy of a keen collector of Scott, and easily restored. The Company name changed from Osiris to ISIS in 1906. Not sure who designed these, maybe Friedrich Adler, hermann Gradl or Hermann Friling. The 2 Vases or planters are 4 1/2" tall 6" tall with there bat wings. I call these 2 vases"Bat" vases, they look like bats to me. The one is made from copper the other one might be brass or copper. A letter from the Treasury Department Dated 19th of January. 1843 about the claim of Mary Hammond from Massachusetts and stating that the claim must have President Tyler(President at the time) approval as the Department is incapable of granting the claim. Signed by Walter Forward who shortly after this left office to William Parmenter. Some tone and folds that separated and appears to be stabilized with conservator's tape(not by us) and holding. Rare signature of Walter Forward as Secretary of the Treasury. See more below. WILLIAM PARMENTER 1837-1844 Parmenter. Born in Boston in 1789, attended local public schools. He served in both houses of the Massachusetts General Court in the 1830s, and was a selectman in Cambridge. Parmenter also managed the New England Crown Glass Company during this period, and was on the board of directors of ... morethe Middlesex Bank. He won a seat in Congress as a Democrat in 1836 by defeating the incumbent. Rep. Samuel Hoar, by a thousand votes. He was reelected four times, and chaired the Committee on Naval Affairs. Up for auction is this brass cat salt shaker designed by Walter Bosse. Shaker features a black cat with polished brass highlights cradling a separate brass shaker ball. Cat figurine measures 3 3/4" long by 1 3/4" wide by 1 1/4" tall. Salt shaker ball measures 1 1/2" diameter. Piece is unmarked. There is a threaded hole on the bottom. Not sure if it was connected to a base or what the significance is. Figurine and salt shaker are in very good condition with no breaks. Bends or corrosion.
