Antique Victorian frame that is very unusual. It is made of layers of paper. Punched paper with wool needlepoint and beadwork. You can see the tiny threads that go through these tiny holes. The colors are bright and there are no tears to the punch paper. The frame measures 14 1/2" x 12" The opening is 4 1/4" x 3 3/4" There are a few tiny beads missing. There is some paper decoration missing from the outside frame. See pictures. There is a decorative gold embossed paper around the opening. There is a pencil sketch of a pretty young girl in a shawl. Rare Antique Victorian Motto Punch Punched Paper Sampler Poem 1904
For Auction is a very nice unique antique punch paper sampler from 1904. It has a poem entitled Lost. And it reads. Lost. Somewhere Between Sunrise and Sunset. Two Golden Hours. Each Set with Sixty Diamond Minutes. No Reward is Offered. For They are Lost FOREVER. It was done at the Darenth Schools of Dartford in Kent England and dated 1904. The school was opened in 1878 and was called The Darenth School for Imbecile Children. The stitch work is very well done in golden thread and Golden beads and silver beads that sparkle and stand out nicely when viewed in person. Has a couple of paper rips in the top right corner. It also has some brown dicoloration on the Darenth at the bottom of the paper. The frame measures approx. 22 across by 29 up and down. The house stitching is very well done, even the roof has a nice textured thatched roof loof. The flowers are down in the walkways and gardens. Very good attention to detail, worth having the water stains taken away. It measures 22 inches by 17 inches. Has water staining in top left corner around the G, as well as top right side near the E in Home and some down in both lower corners. Set of 2 Punched Paper Embroidery These two pieces of punched paper embroidery were purchased out of an estate on Colo. Iowa that had a lot of late 1800 and early 1900 pieces. These two pieces of embroidery appear to be bookmarks. The long one with cross and anchor is 7 inches by 2 inches. It also has a rose and flower pattern on the top and bottom. Antique Swedish Punched Paper motto sampler embroidery Alpha & Omega Celluloid
Here is a wonderful old punched paper sampler with a religous verse, done in the 1880's to 90's. Complete with celluloid embellishments and metallic. Silk and wool threads and natural dried flowers/plants. It is all original and was recently de-accessioned by a local Nebraska prairie pioneer museum. The motto is a biblical verse- I am the Alpha& the Omega. Excellent condition. Has a strip of brown paper tape inside the frame at the bottom which is original. Vintage antique perforated(or punched) paper needlework. This type of hand-sewn(laced) needlework was very popular in the Victorian homes of the late 1800's. Measurements: 25" long x 13-1/2" tall. Motto: I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVETH(A quote from Job 19:25-26) I rarely see this motto quote. Very nice vintage Victorian criss-cross wooden frame with a nice gold-gilt interior rim around the motto. Notice the corners each have a wonderful porcelain knob sitting on a round brass ribbed plate.instead of the more usual oak leaves. The frame is solid. But the left-side is somewhat loose ... moredue to shrinkage of the wood. This can easily be glued to secure it or leave it as is.as it hangs without any problems. Wool Yarn colors are: variegated red through pink then white creates the letters. Variegated greens for the leaves and scroll details. The wood backing appears to be original to this piece. There is a horizontal crack in the wood due to drying over the years. The back is secured with many nails holding it firm. The back appears to have the original hardware and wire for hanging. Gracefully aging. I have had this wonderful motto in my home for the past 24 years and it has never been hung in a"direct-light" area.keeping the bright light off the delicate paper and yarns. I have no idea what its history was b4 my purchase. Except that I bought it at an Antique Shop in California in 1990. Although difficult to photograph without competing with glare off the glass. This emboidered Berlin Work is entitled"He Leadeth Me" from psalm 23 and the punched paper has a patent date of 1874 as pictured. The emboidery is in multiple colors with a white sheep and a staff in the center of the work. The frame has a Lemon Gold Liner and the glass is rippled with seeds. The back is radial sawn wood and is attached with square nails and has its original label from M. B. Hinds. 30 Mulberry St. Main St Opp P.O. Nashua NH. Since there was no backing paper I took the opportunity to open the picture and clean the interior glass and get some pictures of the needlework out of the frame. Vintage Fun Farm Set! Interesting vintage FUN FARM paperboard play set! This item is in the original fragile 7" X 10" envelope which shows some tears and is slit open along bottom. The punch card pieces are all enclosed. One has come loose and a few others are starting too. This set has never been assembled, instructions are on back of envelope- no cutting or pasting. It was from something called the DIME LINE, Produced by Reed& Associates Inc. Chicago, which produced inexpensive fun paper toys for kids. No copyright date. My guess is 1938-1942. 4 1890's antique victorian sampler perforated punched paper for needle point
I can only assume from research that these items are quite old. And were used for embroidery purposes. A couple of them have chunks taken out of them, and the one with the bear and the man is missing most of the border. The only one in quite good condition is one of the two soldiers, which just has a corner taken out at the top. The other soldier with the drum has places missing. The frame has leaves in the corners, the glass is the old original wavy glass, and the backing is wood. The white residue in the corner is from a price label, and it will be removed before the auction ends. As with most of the samplers from the era, there are some condition issues, such as a couple of breaks in the paper, the wood backing has splits, one of the corner leaves is missing a piece, there are breaks in some of the others. Still a great antique sampler, and the muted colors will blend into any decor. It measures 26" long to end of frame and 13.5" tall. The Deer is worked in tiny seed beads on a punched paper backing and the"ground" is worked in wool. The colors are more subtle than they appear in the images. The sampler is in a carved wood frame, there is an old paper label on the back which I cannot decipher, the few words look like they are German. Overall dimensions are 8 7/8" wide x 6 5/8" high. The bead work is in good condition with only a few loose beads.
