This piece was made during the mid 19thC and is most likely European but it could have been made during the China Trade. This box would have been carried by a gentleman during his travels and would have held his valuables and jewelry. There is a tray that fits into the box that has a slot for a pocket watch and there is also slots for other sorts of jewelry such as rings and cufflinks. The box is lined with silk. The exterior of the box is covered in a dark brown snakeskin. The box is in great condition with just some minor wear to the snakeskin and the part that goes over the key hole is no longer present. Very nice case made of wood covered in what appears to be ostrich. Leather has come unglued on the bottom. I took a picture of the wood and there is an in unusual sticker on the bottom that has a butterfly and reads butterfly wei tang zhi zao. I will leave the regluing to you. The inside is padded and lined with a cream colored satin it is very clean. The top has a little leather handle and there is a snap closure. The leather on the handle is creased. See pic. This jewelry box was purchased approximately 20 years ago at an Antique Shop for considerable more than I am asking for. please look closely at the pictures it is really a nice piece. It does have a latch on the side that you could put a lock on. This makes it a nice piece to travel with. Black Velvet on the inside and the bottom, the interior shelves rise up. This weighs between 5- 5.5 lbs. not including packaging. It is very pretty on the outside, decorative looks nice just sitting out. It looks like a big old antique book to me.

This are older display cases but they still have lots of adventures and shows left in them. There are a total of 34 cases- 3 have bracelet inserts. And 2 have earring inserts. Actually, there are inserts for another 3 earring trays, but, they were halves, so I am just going to include them in the sale) I never used these selling at jewelry or craft shows.
