GREAT Antique TIGER MAPLE Dough Bowl with Angled Handles; Trencher
This is an antique dough bowl with handles that I have had for some time; it is time it had a new home to cherish it. It was hand carved from a single piece of tiger maple wood. It has seen a lot of honest use. Although the inside is covered largely with marks from generations of use. The striping of the tiger maple wood is clearly visible on the the top 2-3" of the interior, as well as on the outside. The two handles slope down; one has a hole for hanging. The wood near one of the handles has a burl knot and several age cracks, which add a lot of character. There is also a hairline crack that runs the length of the bowl. None of these have affected the bowl's integrity; it is still rock solid and sturdy. The bowl measures approximately 19" x 11 3/4" x 3 5/8"a really nice size for filling with whatever(large, but not ... moreunwieldy) It sits flat on the table, but if you look at it from the side you can see that age has slightly warped the overall shape of the top rim. I am not an expert on primitives. But will do my best to answer any questions.

These pieces date to 1877 and were made by Hunt& Roskell. The salts are done in a classic trencher form. With a gold wash interior. The spoons are a marriage, made by American maker Towle in the Mary Chilton pattern. The salts are monogrammed on the side with an N with a crown above it. This set is in great condition. There are no splits. No dents, no cracks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each salt is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver. The leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter B for 1877, Queen Victoria's head duty mark, and the maker's ... moremark for Hunt& Roskell. The names Hunt& Roskell are also stamped spelled out. The spoons are stamped with the Towle maker's mark as well as sterling. Each salt measures about 3 by 2 1/2 by 1 1/8 inches. LxWxH.
