This is a vintage Bulova Model SM-1 Inspection Microscope made in Japan. The microscope and original box are in excellent condition. I was told that this item is from a closed down jewelry store where watch works repair and inspections and inspection of precious stone were done. This piece has been in its case for over 30 years and still includes the original keys. One unlocks the door and the other unlocks the bottom so the microscope will slide out. There are shelves inside and storage places on the inside of the door. I do not know if it was actually used as it is so clean. It is very heavy at about 19 lbs. Please enlarge and look at the photos for better descriptions. There are 2 extra bulbs. A round piece for inspection plate and an extra clamp or arm piece. If you have additional questions or need additional pictures please send me an email. The unit is in fair condition. It has been sitting in storage for awhile collecting dust so i thought I would throw it up here and see if anyone can use it. It does have some rust spots on the metal plates. It does have 4 Bausch and Lomb pieces. Industrial 50x0.45. 25x0.031, 8x0.15, 2.25x0.04 I do not know if all the ports on the sides work. Because I have no way to test it I am selling it for parts or repair and AS IS. It is heavy and for its safety it will have to be shipped freight. All brass construction. Compass joint tilt. 2" diameter plano-concave mirror in fair condition. Adjustable vertically on substage post. Finish; fair to good. Optics and function: good. Extends from 16" to 19" Smooth working rack and pinion course focus. 4.3" long x 4.3" wide jibbed substage. Rotatable stage with parallel sliding stage clips. Stage mounted on geared X-Y adjustable platform with three adjusting knurled knobs. One of the twin tubes is attached directly to the horizontal bar. The lower end of this tube holds the sliding Wenham containing the analyzer element.The other tube is hinged to the base ... moreof the main tube. Inter-pupillary adjustment of the tubes is controlled through a rack and pinion between the tube assemblies which in turn is rotatable on a 4" long horizontal support attached to the vertical support bar. The London based optical firm of R& J. Beck first introduced the Economic Microscope model in the mid 1860s. This model along with the Popular Microscope and later the New National Microscope received wide acceptance in the UK. Europe and in America especially for use in medical schools, hospitals, scientific laboratories and colleges. The Beck firm offered 2 versions of this model microscope, one with a sliding body tube coarse focus system and one with a rack& pinion coarse focus mechanism. Offered here is the latter type, which R& J Beck assigned the Catalogue Number 264. Accompanying this listing for comparison with the instrument featured here is an image of this model microscope extracted from the R. J. Beck Catalogue entitled.
