Vintage Atlas 10" 12" Metal lathe spindle parts, bushings,spacers and keys

You are bidding on some used parts from an Atlas 10F headstock spindle or an Atlas 3896 12 inch commercial lathe. All these parts came in a box of stuff I got with my 12 inch lathe and/or a head stock I purchased for parts to rebuild my commercial lathe. The parts have battle scares but appear to be in useable condition but may need to be cleaned up before being used. Included are the following parts and the atlas part numbers where known: one 10-A5 collar(front slinger shaft to dust cover)One 10A-6 spacer(rear slinger shaft to dust cover) two shaft collars(one appears to be 10A-89? and two woodruff keys. Atlas 10 F Metal Lathe carriage plates 10F-54,55, shims and screws
You are bidding on some leftover carriage saddle parts that came with my 12 inch commercial lathe and were loose in a box with other items from the lathe. I used similar pieces to rebuild the carriage on my 12 inch unit and these were left. I believe these parts should also work on the 10 inch Atlas metal lathe. The bearing plates are 11 and 10 1/8 inches long by 3/16 inches thick and. 3/4 and 1 inch wide. The shims are all.005 thick by my micrometer. Because there are no identifiable markings on any of these parts I have included in the last 2 pictures a parts list of the 10 and 12 inch atlas metal lathes shims and plates. Make sure you are bidding on the correct parts that fit your application as there are no returns. The lathe is on the original cabinet with some dinges, scratches and minor dents. The ways average with a lip and scratches. The backlash is about 1/4 turn on all handles. The power feed and threading work fine. Lathe runs fine and all functions seem to work good. Spindle is 1 1/2" threaded, bore is about 7/8" The gears all look good no chipped teeth, and it has a new flat belt. There are scrapes on the compound from the chuck and the thread chart has dinges on it. Antique Metal Lathe with overhead Driveline Dexter Machine Company
This Dexter Machine Company Lathe was manufactured in the 1890's I think It was sold through a machine sales company in Boston. Original badges are still intact. The story of the machine that I was told is that it came a company in Walpole Mass. I used to use it for polishing now and again. But not in a while. The rust you see in the photos on the drive line is very light. The lathe itself has no rust on the ways. It comes with the chuck shown and also a drive plate, and various tools and tool holders. Machine can be seen in Norfolk. MA. although it is not under power. I also have a few other machines for sale. Buy this cheap piece of history now, before I need to scrap it. Small Vintage Unknown Metal Lathe approx. 11" chuck to center
I have an unknown. Small(11" between chuck and tailstock center) metal lathe for sale. It appears to be in pretty good condition. I would have loved to have had this lathe to mess with as a kid or early hobbiest! Only has a 3" by 4 jaw chuck. I tried to remove it to see what Taper and threading the headstock might have, but it's on there pretty firmly and I didn't want to take a chance of screwing it up! I'll leave that to you. The tailstock didn't have a center, but it turns(pun alert! out that it's the same zero Morse Taper as my Sherline lathe-so I put a Zero MT dead center in it and it seems to fit great! You can see it has only manual adjustment for up and down the lathe bed, but looks like it's all set for tapers. Pretty easy to reset headstock, tailstock or cross slide positioning. Chuck looks almost ... morelike one from a Craftsman 6" metal lathe. This is one cute, little, mini-lathe! Check out my pics-someone has applied some vise grips in the past to try to remove the chuck. I leave that to you. For some unknown reason this fly mill was made with a.989" diameter shaft which may fit too loosely in a standard 1" holder.
