You are bidding on a used 9" South Bend lathe.Model A#444. 6 speed HMD bench lathe. It has the quick change gear box for thread and feeds. Also, automatic apron with friction clutch for operating power cross feeds, and power longitudinal feeds. I do not know a lot about this item as I never used it but there is a website that is: It describes this lathe. I am 78 years old. My father used this lathe when I was small and my husband used it until he died recently. It has always been well cared for and has only been used for prototype work. There are chips on the lathe in the photos as he was using the lathe right up until he died at 88 so I have not attempted to"clean it up" I think he was in the process of making something. To my knowledge. There is not one single thing wrong with the lathe and it was in use until recently. South Bend 9" Swing x 48" Bed Machinist Metal Lathe with Reversible Motor Nice
I bought this from the estate of a man that used it in his musical instrument repair shop so I don't think it's seen heavy use. It has a Mongomery Ward Powr-Kraft 120 volt 1/3hp reversible motor that works. I tested the lathe before removing it from the bench it was on and everything seemed to work fine. This is a very nice Craftsman Commercial metal lathe. 12" swing with quickchange gearbox and power cross slide. The commercial model has 1/2" thick bedways as opposed to the regular atlas or craftsman that have 3/8" thick ways. Includes nice original cabinet with belt underdrive and adjustable speeds from 28rpm to 2072rpm. 45 thread feeds from 4tpi to 120tpi. No. 3 MT spindle and no. 2 MT tailstock. Through hole capacity 25/32. All gears look good. Bed ways are good with minor rust spots here and there, compound only has.003-004 backlash, cross slide only has.005- 006 backlash, measured by the dial, not an indicator) tailstock is nice and smooth. This is a nice lathe from early 70's that has seen little use. Would be nice for garage or home shop hobbiest. Included is a NEW OLD STOCK milling attachment, milling draw bar, ... moretaper attachment(has some rust) steady rest, follow rest, three jaw chuck, four jaw chuck, faceplate. Now the bad. I know it needs a belt. And the power cord is cracked up, I'll replace them before auction end. Someone took a torch to the back of the cabinet when replacing the motor. You can see some rust on the cabinet and the lathe from this humid enviroment. I would encourage inspection prior to bidding but I know that is not always possible. Large Metal Spinning Bowl Turning Lathe Headstock
Couldn't save the whole lathe but I did manage to save some parts. This is a massive headstock with z 3.25 inch spindle running in Timkin bearings. The spindle is not locked up. It turms by hand. But I cannot guarantee the condition of the bearings since I could not run it under power. It was driven by 6 v-belts that went from the 4 speed transmission that was mounted above. I have included a picture as it was mounted on the lathe but you are only getting the headstock and two faceplates not the transmission or the headstock stand. The transmission is available in a separate ebay auction as is the tailstock. One of the faceplates is threaded to screw onto the spindle and is 12" in diameter. The other bolts onto the first faceplate and is 15" in diameter. Craftsman 6" Metal Lathe With a Complete Set of Tooling and a Bench
This is a Craftsman 6 inch metal lathe package. It includes the lathe. Workbench, toolbox, and an extensive selection of tooling. The lathe model number is 101.21400. The serial number is 013600. I am selling the lathe package because I recently moved. I need the space it occupies, and I believe I no longer need it. The lathe has had very little use. It has mostly been stored during the past 40 years. The Atlas vertical milling attachment is new. Never used. It includes the vise. The Atlas milling cutter holder is new. Never used and includes five collets. The Atlas fixed steady rest is new. Never used. The Atlas moving steady rest is new. Never used. The three and four jaw chucks are made by Bison. These are flat back chucks mounted on Bison backing plates. A ½ inch Jacobs chuck is also included. Everything included is this auction ... moreis shown in the attached pictures. The weight may be considerable as the package includes the lathe. The tooling, the toolbox, and the worktable. We can arrange for shipment if you are prepared to cover the shipping cost. I bought the lathe in 2001 with the idea that I would need it in my contracting business. The person I bought it from had not used it in thirty years he had it. It was presented to him as a gift. I noticed that the countershaft had a slight crack in it which I brazed to repair. This crack may be why he never used the lathe. The brazed repair can be seen in one of the photos. The countershaft works fine as it is intended. The lathe is like new as far as wear goes. I rarely used the lathe and most of the times I did use it. Was for turning wood. There is no perceptible wear on the bed ways. I do not think the change threading gears were ever used. This lathe has roller bearings and a 1 by 10tpi headstock thread. The motor is a totally enclosed ½ hp 1725 rpm with a reversing switch.

Description: This lathe is a Used Dainichi Metal working lathe made by Dainichi Kinzoku Kogyo CO. LTD. I believe the lathe is considered a DAINICHI 22/32" x 80" Engine Lathe. Model DLG-10. The entire dimensions of the lathe are 11ft 7in long. 4ft 2in deep from front of handles to back of lathe, 4ft 4in tall. I do know that the lathe is fully operational, and hasn’t had any problems in the past. The Machine Number(serial number) is 3845 and was manufactured in December 1965. The only thing that I have found on the lathe wrong is the center part on one of the push buttons is missing below the red light on the control panel. The lathe is also a 480 Volt I also believe that there are eight spindle speeds, 40-1200rpm.
