There is some surface rusting. I gave it a quick wash then dried it in the oven so it wouldn't rust further. But did not oil it. I didn't want it to be a smudgy mess during shipping, but a good coat of oil and then some USE would make this right as rain! The bad is the handle is missing as well as the blade, and packaged weight is just over 10 lbs of IRON, lol. What's fabulous? There are 8 plates that go with this. The auger is there as well as the screw on cap. So other than the slight rust coating, this can be a great functional piece. It only has one foot with 4 holes to screw it down to your meat board.
