P-38 Magneto Switch- Rare Bendix Scintilla Encased Model Up for bids is an unusual Magneto Switch which I believe was for a Lockheed P-38 Fighter. This is a Type B-5 that is used on E. F, and G model P-38's. This Type B-5 switch was also used on other WWII Military aircraft as well. What makes this switch different that it is has a cover- I have never seen one of these dual WWII magneto switches with a cover. This might have been for additional protection from battle damage for this very important component. Unfortunately. I cannot find any specific information on this particular style switch. This offer is for the Webster magneto shown. All the parts move freely but probably the whole thing needs to be cleaned. It was covered with oily sawdust. I tried cocking and tripping the starting lever. But did not see a spark at the breaker points. The points are opening and closing. There are no parts that are rusted tight. There is no damage or repairs. The bracket has two 17/32 holes, 2 3/8 inches apart. I have seen this same bracket listed for a Galloway engine. The whole unit is complete. This Bendix Magneto is Type PA4F. Serial# 457128 and inst. spec. 10-53552-3. I am not certain of the application. I was told that it is for a tractor. My father worked for Minneapolis Moline so that is the only tractor magneto that we would have. It was inspected by an airplane mechanic and he found it to be in good working order. I do not know if it is new or used. If you are a Minneapolis Moline tractor rebuilder you would recognize this part. I have no idea for sure of the application. I cannot make any guarantees about it. This magneto 5 bar generator is identified as a Western Electric by its model number 48A marked on front and back plate. Unlike others I have had. This one is not marked PATD IN USA JULY 17 1894 on the front and back plate. Also different is the dimpel on the back side of each magnet. The armature turns free; output has not been tested. The four bottom mounting holes are about 2”x 1½” apart; overall stands about 5¾” tall.Base is approx 4 5/8”x 3 3/8” Large gear wheel is about 3¼” in diameter. You are bidding on a used IH J-4 mag for Farmall CUB tractors. I put the mag on my test bench and it throws a 3/8" long hot blue spark from each distributor cap lead. Somebody has robbed the cover over the rotor. As shown in picture. This won't affect running, just be careful not to lose rotor timing when removing the distributor cap. Vintage High Output 48A 5 Bar Western Electric Magneto Generator & Original Case
Today I am offering this vintage Western Electric 48-A high output magneto/generator. An estate sale find. Comes in its original#299-F marked Oak case which has been painted black. Not only a very clean generator but it works fine. Picture# 2 shows it producing 85 volts ac while I cranked it and holding the camera. I was able to reach higher voltages when not holding the camera. It produced enough electricity to light a 130 volt 25 watt light bulb. In my research I found that generator boxes with the marking 299-F were stand alone units that were used for emergency power in case trunk lines went down. Rebuilt F-6 magneto for six cylinder engines. Mag was completely dismantled. Cleaned, inspected, and carefully reassembled. Any defective parts were either replaced or reworked. Mag has new points, condenser, good original coil, and recharged magnet. Bearings and rotor bushing have been packed with a high grade grease, magneto will run trouble free for years. Mag has been run on my test bench and throws a nice 3/8" long hot blue spark from each distributor cap lead, and impulse coupling snaps as it should. Will ship flat rate priority mail. Western Electric #317 magneto cank-style oak wall telephone
the Western Electric number 317 magneto wall phones were introduced in 1907 and remained in production for about 30 years. with several technology and styling upgrades along the way. this one is a plain-front short-transmitter version of the 317. Introduced around 1916. the long transmitter arm was replace by a short bracket which held a new No.323 transmitter. the phone is smaller size and sports a shorter and more slanted writing shelf. this phone is in original condition, with a working magneto and bell, ready for service on an old-style magneto line-with"Sarah" the operator connecting each party at her switchboard. this phone was purchased in the Ozarks of rural Missouri in 1974. it is in good shape, with usual wear, and small pieces of the frame near the bottom cut off years ago. see photos for condition details WOW What a ... moregreat old Ozarks phone! This is a lot of 5 brass oilers for hit and miss gas engines. One is a Michigan(far left) One is a Gits(far right) and the other three are unidentified. They all have good glass, none of them has a check ball or vent tube, none are missing the filler cover, all of the threads and hexes are nice. From the left in the pictures, the lengths are 4" 4" 3-1/2" 5" and 3-1/4" And the diameters are 2" 1-5/8" 1-1/4" 1-7/8" and 2" at the base. Magneto Electric Machine for Nervous Diseases - S. Maw & Sons, London - Works!
Thanks for looking! You are bidding on an antique Magneto-Electric Machine for Nervous Diseases. This machine was manufactured by S. Maw& Son in London. England. Online research indicates that this machine was manufactured in the late 1800's. This machine is in excellent condition and works very well! The wooden box is constructed using splines and is in excellent condition. There is a minor crack in the back right top. See photos for more detail. The crank handle turns the gears easily and the brass frame and gears are in excellent condition. The finish on the magnet is near mint. The brass knob on the left end(to increase the power output) operates easily. A small area of black paint is missing on the crank handle. There are a couple of small cracks on the wooden portion of one of the handles. See photos for more detail. The handles ... moreand pins are original but the attached wires have been replaced. The lock appears functional but I do not have a key for it. The paper instruction sheet has a few stains and a small nick in it but is in good condition on the lid of the box. Turning the crank while holding the handles produces the expected tingling/shock feeling. This machine works as it should. The wooden box measures 10" long x 4 1/2" wide by 4 1/4" tall and weighs 6 3/4 pounds. This is an excellent machine and would make a fine addition to any collection. Contact me with any questions.
