These two(2) vintage pillow block bearings were m anufactured by SealMaster Stephens-Adamson sometime in the 1940's. Julius E. Shafer received Pat. 2.403,687 for this bearing and this number is on the steel label outlined with red paint. The entire label. From top to bottom, Left to right says: SEALMASTER STEPHENS-ADAMSON MFG. CO. AURORA. ILL PAT. 2,403,687 OTHERS PENDING SHAFT SIZE BALL BEARING 15/16" UNIT MP-15 The bearings have been lightly cleaned but some grease remains and the middle portion/shaft does rotate. From Ebearings website: Sealmaster Aurora employed just 125 people by the time it shut down for good. A far cry from the 1,000 or so it once had working there. Aurora was home to Sealmaster's bearing ring and component manufacturing operations. Those parts will now be produced in Maysville, then shipped to a plant ... morein Morehead, Kentucky for final assembly. Shuttering Aurora ends another chapter in the history of the U.S. bearing manufacturing industry. Sealmaster was founded in 1938 as a division of Stephens-Adamson Company. Then a leading manufacturer of light duty, plain bearing conveyor and power transmission equipment. But Stephens-Adamson started Sealmaster only after hiring Julius Shaefer.
