Happy Holidays From The Latest Member Of The Trout Underground
By Tom Chandler 12/24/2013
Rosie: The newest member of the Underground
It's taken me this long to twig to the fact that my wife (the "L&&T" to the regulars around here) has a habit of collecting strays.
There was the verging-on-trout-bum/antisocial me (we're not commenting on the prior boyfriends, though...); two rugrats from literally halfway around the world; a cat who is happy to eat what we set out, but is otherwise fine hanging all by himself (thank you very much); and now Rosie -- the Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who wandered into our yard, wasn't claimed by anyone after several weeks of trying, and wound up staying.
She hasn't entirely made peace with the cat yet, but she tolerates the sometimes horrifying things the little ones do to her (see picture above), and commits the bare minimum of antisocial acts (no shoes have been chewed in the making of this blog post).
And given the mix of breeds, she's demonstrably smarter than the person writing this post.
In other words, another stray has joined the family.
Accordingly, Happy Holidays to all of us strays.
