Happy Holidays From The Latest Member Of The Trout Underground

By Tom Chandler 12/24/2013

Rosie the Dog Rosie: The newest member of the Underground

It's taken me this long to twig to the fact that my wife (the "L&&T" to the regulars around here) has a habit of collecting strays.

There was the verging-on-trout-bum/antisocial me (we're not commenting on the prior boyfriends, though...); two rugrats from literally halfway around the world; a cat who is happy to eat what we set out, but is otherwise fine hanging all by himself (thank you very much); and now Rosie -- the Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who wandered into our yard, wasn't claimed by anyone after several weeks of trying, and wound up staying.

She hasn't entirely made peace with the cat yet, but she tolerates the sometimes horrifying things the little ones do to her (see picture above), and commits the bare minimum of antisocial acts (no shoes have been chewed in the making of this blog post).

And given the mix of breeds, she's demonstrably smarter than the person writing this post.

In other words, another stray has joined the family.

Accordingly, Happy Holidays to all of us strays.

Steve: What does L&T stand for?Loving and Trusting? "Lovely and Talented." Got tired of writing it out each time.

Steve Z: Nice, low energy sort of breed. That’s just perfect. See you being herded. My hopes for a couch potato, TV-friendly dog -- like so many of my other dreams -- died a swift death at the hands of the rest of the family.

Turnip Truck Driver: Looks like a well tied deer antler emerger to me. C'mon, anyone can see it's a Reindeer Haystack.

Marty: I’m so antisocial that I just have houseplants…. and stopped hanging around the kind of women that would date me long ago I guess we should prepare ourselves for the inevitable "A man's body was found today in his foil-lined home. He was surrounded by carnivorous plants, one of whom apparently was responsible for his death..."

JP2: You have got yourselves a great mutt!! My folks had one like that for 12 years, great dog, smart, Frisbee catcher, personable as all heck….Can’t beat Wally but Rosie will be a dog of her own….J2 If only we could get the cat and dog to meld. That's proving problematic.

JJP: You and yours are so gifted on this holiday! Spoken by a man who was not awakened at 4:00 am every morning during the week prior to Christmas by somewhat overeager kids...

fausto: Border collie/Australian shepherd! Not only will she be writing all your best material so you can collect a fine annuity in retirement, but she can also double as a free private cardio workout trainer! She is, I'm guessing, the fastest dog I've Ever Seen Running In Person. Gads she can run.
