Still waiting for my copy of the book. I did order one which makes the wait meaningful. Waiting for a book you haven’t ordered can be tedious.
It’s nice that you’ve spoiled it all for me. Or maybe you’re just enhancing my reading experience. It’s not yet clear.

Funny what reading Gierach does to me – a former English major making a living in finance for the past fifteen years. The first time I read the quote I laughed. The second time I thought, wow, Gierach’s writing is getting a little loose, using well worn phrases like, “as well as anyone and better than most.” The third time I read it I realized I was just jealous I hadn’t written that line.
Looking forward to reading more… I think.

It’s ordered. Preparing for The Arrival. I asked the guy in The Shop Where It Must Be Purchased if it was “any good” (a throw-away question in the style of a bloke who’s nervously anticipating something he wants quite badly while simultaneously sniffing for a waxy answer to validate his lust. Kinda pleased when he said: “it’s The Usual Stuff”).

Your reactions to the book are awaited. I think it is the usual stuff. I’m only halfway through, but it feels like he’s returning to the topics he hasn’t written about the last couple books (when he suggested he’d essentially become a travel writer).
Then again, I haven’t finished the thing yet.

I’m looking forward. Perhaps we’re prone to underestimate just how good the guy is, probably because, on the face of it, he writers “fishing books”, only 2.47% of which are worth more than arse paper. I believe he’s one of the very best writers alive or dead, about anything. I’ve debated — with myself and often under the affluence — whether he could or should go this way or that, but it’s like carping that The Bard was formulaic.
Okay, I’m stretching, but you dig my meaning. I think I’m quite excited.
