2 Antique Battle Creek Sanitarium Individual Vegetable Dishes 4” Bowls O.P.Co. Syracuse China 1919 Here are 2 stoneware individual vegetable dishes/ bowls(4" in diamteter X 1.25” high) from the Battle Creek Sanitarium, or“San” as we called it growing up. They feature a fancy swag and ribbon design in green known as the Dorion Design, which was copyrighted in 1919. They are heavy restaurant quality china, so I suspect they were used in the cafeteria for employees. One dish is in near mint condition, with a few very slight utensil marks. The other also has only a few slight utensil marks, but there is a Y-shaped crazing line in the center(NOTE this is not a crack in the china, but rather in the glaze) Both are back-stamped“O.P.CO. Syracuse China, G-8. The San catered to the wealthiest people from around the world, and of course included ... morea fine dining room for these elite. Both of my Danish grandparents worked in the original old stone building most of their adult lives-I visited them there as a child in the early 1960s(even though the history from my on-line search said this building burned in 1902-it did not, at least not completely! John Harvey Kellogg, brother of the maker of Kellogg’s cereals, began a new building 1902 with 6 stories; it was enlarged to the 14-story"towers" in 1928. When the stock market crashed a year later, the San lost many of its wealthy clientele, and its revenues gradually declined. The U.S. Army purchased Towers building and made it the Percy Jones Hospital, and in 1954, it became the Battle Creek Federal Center. The new building is located a few blocks away from the old in downtown Battle Creek, and is now the Federal Building. Please see the other Battle Creek Sanitarium plates I have posted! Offered for sale is a SET OF SIX nice depression-era clear glass sherbet dishes made by Anchor Hocking. In the Berwick(Boopie) pattern that resembles(and coordinates well with) Imperial Candlewick. Fifteen small glass spheres encircle the base of each dish, and the outside surfaces are wheel etched with a laurel pattern. Like all Anchor Hocking glass, these were made in the U.S.A. The dishes stand 3 1/2 inches(8.9cm) in height at the rim. And they measure 3 1/2 inches(8.9cm) in diameter at the top. A U.S. quarter is shown in pictures 2 and 3 to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. They are free from chips cracks and scratches. And they have no lime scale or detergent damage. This set was produced by the Higbee Company in the 1908-1918 time-frame. No hairlines or major damage, some age related crazing, blue dish has a tiny chip on the edge of the base plate, yellow dish has a tiny chip to the top edge, green dish has a minute nick under the edge of the base plate and the bronze bowl has two tiny touched up top edge nicks and a minute nick under the base plate edge. Two Victorian Decorative Pottery Tea Pot Stands/ Dishes C.1880s Poppy& Dresden Here are two teapot stands or platters dating from the 1880s- they are made of earthenware with hand coloured transfer prints- very decorative. The smaller one is by K& Co- the design is called"Poppy" This has a large crack- though the crack is stable. The larger is a pattern called Dresden- I do not know the maker. But the registered number( 36731) dates it to 1885 or just after. This one has a big chip on the back of the rim. So these are not perfect. But decorative and useable antiques. Sizes: the larger one is 9 inches wide. The Tek Sing Shipwreck Cargo of 1822(True Star) was a large ocean going Junk. 60 meters in length, that set sail from Amoy harbour in China, bound for Batavia(now Jakarta) on the island of Java. On board were merchants, crew and 1600 passengers. The cargo holds were packed with over 300,000 pieces of porcelain, and in between and on top was stowed black and green teas, raw silk, bamboo furniture, mother of pearl tortoiseshell and medicinal herbs. Two weeks into the voyage the Captain attempted a shorter route through the Gaspar Straits. On the evening of 5 February the Tek Sing ran onto the Belvidere Reef and sank with a loss of almost 1800 lives, which is even more than the Titanic. Its incredible cargo of porcelain, the largest and most varied ever recovered was auctioned in Stuttgart, Germany over a ten day period in November 2000. This treasure was salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher, the most successful underwater treasure hunter of our time. Antique EAPG Child’s ABC Ice Cream Plates 4 Dishes Federal Glass Children's
Offered for auction is a rarely seen set of antique child’s clear glass dishes. These early American pattern glass dishes were made by Federal Glass Company and date to 1910. They are from the Wabash Series. These wonderful child’s plates are decorated with the alphabet around the other rim and ICE CREAM with a dish of ice cream and spoon in the center. The are reverse decorated from the back and the front is smooth. All are in excellent condition with the early glass showing some bubbles. One has a tiny black spot near the ice cream.
