ASIAN TEAPOT GLAZE PAINTING AND TRAILING CHROME GREEN CRANES
The teapot measures 5 inches high and 7 1/2 inches wide. The green is a darker chrome green but this is how the camera captured it. There is a super tight hairline on the foot. And two glaze misses on the lid lip and lid handle. This teapot was glazed first with the dark green and then a clear over that. The lid is inset with five cranes in flight, done in silver, with details done in copper and gold. This was probably a cigarette box originally but it can be used for jewelry, trinkets, or whatever you like. The box is in great condition. The interior of the lid has some water spots or something. Which could easily be cleaned off. The hinge is in good shape and the box closes well. There are no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of the box has a maker's mark. Symbols for longevity, and a pine bough on silk and professionally framed with a narrow bamboo frame, bevel cut mat and covered with glass. The painting is signed. The framing was done by Jerry Solomon Enterprises Inc. in Los Angeles. Size with frame: 16 1/4"x 18 3/4" The painted area inside the mat is 71/2" x 9 1/2" I haven't removed the frame or mat to see if the painting extends or what is underneath. Condition: Fine! C1921-40s. The box measures 9" x 9" x 2-1/2" high. Shaped corners and gently concave sides. The cover is painted with gold cranes and bamboo stands. The interior is fitted with a 5-part porcelain condiments set: a flute-edged center or dipping bowl surrounded by four fitted corner bowls. The porcelain is decorated with stylized flowers and sunrays stamped in red and gold. A multitude of multi-colored"ancestors" fan out inside the wells of the corner bowls. These big planters with an African crowned crane. A stork and plants in relief bisque on the front are Henri Ardant for Limoges between 1873 and 1883. Glazed porcelain in apple green contrast with the moss green scene in bisque. On the sides, handles are dog heads in light yellow. In very good condition, save some loss of gilt and one feet-in one of the planters- that has been restored(see photo) But neither diminish the beauty of the planters, which are perfectly usable.
