Back in 1998 I bought a small accumulation of movie/ television prop currency. As best as I can figure these notes were produced circa the 1940s-1960s. I will be offering them in series and singles over the next few weeks. This is a group of four($1. $5, $10 and $20) notes in the format of 1861 Demand Notes(face) with the back in similitude of a 1923 United States Note. It's very hard to see because it's printed in green on green, but on the back in the horizontal bar at center is printed"FOR MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES ONLY" Measures about 7-3/8" x 3-1/8" Uncirculated condition. This wonderful CDV Photo measures approx. 2 1/8” by 3 5/8" and is mounted on its original, square corner CDV Card Mount(overall size is 2 1/2" by 4" The CDV features a wonderful and very rare view of the Wartime White House Pictures the Blue Room after the Bellange original carved and gilded furniture(purchased by James Monroe) had been sold at auction in 1860 and replaced by Buchanan with the Victorian Rococo Revival suite seen here- this is the Blue Room as it appeared during the administration of Abraham Lincoln. The back of the mount is blank with the only description being what appears to be a period. Rare Civil War Soldier Letters Archive 85th Infantry Union Confederacy Lincoln
For sale is the correspondence of Corporal Albert H. Bancroft during his years of service in the 85th Infantry of New York during the Civil War. There are 60 letters including those written prior to his enlistment which have all been carefully transcribed and numbered in chronological order. The letters are largely addressed to his sister Almyra with whom he was in regular contact. There are a few letters addressed to friends and other family members as well. The letters chronicle the soldier's journey through the war. The hardships, duties, and enduring hope he had for the end of the war. His regiment was present at the battle of Williamsburg and at Fair Oaks and he wrote of the destruction of cities and the carnage of war. These letters served as a warning for his younger brother William(Willie" J. Bancroft, who desperately wanted ... moreto be a soldier like his brother. Not heeding his older brother's advice, Willie enlisted in the 24th Regiment of NY Cavalry in March of 1864. Tragically, Willie died in the battle at Cold Harbor June 2, 1864. Albert was taken prisoner when his entire regiment surrendered to superior forces in Plymouth, N.C. He later died in Andersonville prison, G.A. August 10, 1864. Included in this collection are 3 letters written by Willie during his service in the Army. The letters start prior to the Civil War. Finding Albert in Bristol, NY, away from his family in Shortsville, NY. He enlists at Elmira, NY and his correspondence follows all of his Company's movements from 1861 until 1864. This is a beautiful 2000 Lincoln Cent. Coming out of the Philadelphia Mint, sporting a massive Broadstrike. The coin is uncirculated. Showing several large areas of red. It is a gorgeous coin. A Broadstrike is defined as a coin struck outside the collar. So that the coin metal squeezes sideways from between the dies, the coin being larger than normal in diameter.
