Bulletin 218. And reprinted ... moreby the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, 1959. Reprinted by Nation Builder Books, Leesburg, VA, 2003, 8½ x 11 softcover, 10 pages. Please note that this is a photoduplicated reproduction. Not an original. Partly based on a study of the remains of the 1837 model Deere plow in the possession of the Smithsonian. This plow was made by John Deere at Grand Detour in 1838 and sold to Joseph Brierton. In 1901. The plow was bought from the Brierton farm by Deere’s son, Charles H. Deere, and put on display at the Moline headquarters of Deere& Company. The company then donated the plow to the Smithsonian in 1938. Deere& Co. records indicate that this was one of three plows made by John Deere in 1838 and that it was substantially identical to the first plow made in 1837. Kendall also describes the historical evidence of the business partnership established in March 1843 between John Deere and Leonard Andrus. Founder of Grand Detour and part owner of the sawmill located there. In a cited letter to Kendall, author Stewart Holbrook stated that the most if not all of the material supporting the story that Deere actually only built a plow built to Andrus’s specifications came from the files of the J.I. Case Company. Kendall dissects this story and its validity, while describing in detail how Deere apparently made the 1838 plow, and with what materials. Kendall’s little monograph is crammed full of interesting details about Deere and his plow. For example. Kendall reports that the first slab of cast plow steel ever rolled in the United States was made in 1846, and was shipped to John Deere, of Moline, Illinois. There is a lengthy quote from Burton F. Peck, whom Kendall identifies has having spent most of his life in Deere& Co. and who may now be the only person living who knew John Deere. Restored 1959 John Deere 630 NO RESERVE
This gorgeous 1959 John Deere 630 was restored 8 years ago and garaged ever since. It does have 32 hours on the clock from driving around in parades and so forth. It spent its entire life on the dry high planes of western Nebraska. And prior to restoration the tractor was rust-free, straight, and complete. The mechanical restoration was done by a John Deere employee in his spare time, and the painting was professionally done. Starts easily and runs great. Three point is free and well lubed, all gauges are new. I can provide video if you would like. Although restored and in good working order, it is being sold as is, so ask questions please.

John Deere Pocket Notebook for Contractors and Loggers. 2nd Edition for calendar years 1959 and 1960. The notebook measures apaprox 3 1/2" by 6 1/4" in size and 48 pages in length. One of the photos shows the notebook index which covers just about everything a contractor or logger would need to know. Also featured in the notebook is John Deere equipment so it's a great reference piece. Condition wise the notebook has a lot of issues. It's all there but it's stained, creased, there is edge wear and the previous owner wrote on 7 of the blank notebook pages. Overall, fair condition.

John Deere 1959 630 Gas Row Crop Narrow Front Tractor. Serial Number is 6306174. This Tractor came from North Central North Dakota about 1 1/2 Years Ago. I bought it with 11 other tractors from a Gentleman that was retiring and was selling some tractors he knew he wouldn't be getting around to. When I bought the tractor. He told me that it didn't run, but he wasn't sure why it woudnt run. I got it home and the manifold on it had a large hole in it. I took the manifold and head off, I replaced the manifold with a near perfect set of original intake and exhaust genuine JD Manifolds. I had the manifolds blasted and surfaced. The Head was Completely Redone at a Local Professional Machine Shop. The Valves were Ground, All Surfaces were Shaved and Trued Up Straight. New Head Gasket, New Manifold Gaskets were Installed. Next I sent the ... moreCarburetor off to Marks Carburetor Repair in Rice Minnesota. The carb was gone through and everything it needed was replaced or rebuilt. Rebuilt Sediment Bowl with New Diaphrams Screen and Gasket from Steiner Tractor Parts, Distributor has New Points, New Condensor, New Coil, New Spark Plugs, New Spark Plug Wires and they are the Original Style Wires and I got them from John Brillman. New Grill Screens, New Air Cleaner Bowl, New Single and Double Sided Friction Discs Installed. Brakes were taken apart and adjusted but there was plenty of life lef on the pads I didn't replace them. If you hit the brakes when you are driving it will skid the tires. Brakes Work Perfectly. Drums have been Reriveted at one time. Engine and Transmission Fluids were Changed this Week with all New 30 weight and 80-90 Weight Oils. High Oil Pressure. The Tractor Starts and Runs Excellent! John Deere’s Steel Plow. By Edward C. Kendall, originally published in Contributions from the Museum of History and Technology. Bulletin 218. And reprinted by the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, 1959. Reprinted by Nation Builder Books, Leesburg, VA, 2003, 8½ x 11 softcover, 10 pages. Please note that this is a photoduplicated reproduction. Not an original. Partly based on a study of the remains of the 1837 model Deere plow in the possession of the Smithsonian. This plow was made by John Deere at Grand Detour in 1838 and sold to Joseph Brierton. In 1901. The plow was bought from the Brierton farm by Deere’s son, Charles H. Deere, and put on display at the Moline headquarters of Deere& Company. The company then donated the plow to the Smithsonian in 1938. Deere& Co. records indicate that this was one of three plows made ... moreby John Deere in 1838 and that it was substantially identical to the first plow made in 1837. Kendall also describes the historical evidence of the business partnership established in March 1843 between John Deere and Leonard Andrus. Founder of Grand Detour and part owner of the sawmill located there. In a cited letter to Kendall, author Stewart Holbrook stated that the most if not all of the material supporting the story that Deere actually only built a plow built to Andrus’s specifications came from the files of the J.I. Case Company. Kendall dissects this story and its validity, while describing in detail how Deere apparently made the 1838 plow, and with what materials. Kendall’s little monograph is crammed full of interesting details about Deere and his plow. For example. Kendall reports that the first slab of cast plow steel ever rolled in the United States was made in 1846, and was shipped to John Deere, of Moline, Illinois. There is a lengthy quote from Burton F. Peck, whom Kendall identifies has having spent most of his life in Deere& Co. and who may now be the only person living who knew John Deere. John Deere 1959 730 Gas Row Crop with Factory Square Wide Front! Serial Number is 7319633. We bought this tractor from a Gentleman near Mankato. MN back in 2011. His Uncle bought it when it was 2 years old from the Original Owner, He then bought it from his Uncle and farmed with from the mid 1980s up until we bought it. A Real Fresh off the Farm 730 Tractor. The Tractor Starts and Runs Excellent, It will idle right down to a Very Slow"Pop.Pop.Pop" Sounds Great! Engine is Strong. We have used it for discing and pulling dead tractors around the yard, etc. Float Ride Seat, Upright Airstack, Single Hydraulics. Hydraulics Work Good, it has 15.5x 38 Matched Rear Tires. I would rate them at about 80% on the conservative side, if you see them in person you would probably say they are better than that, but they are at least 80% Engine has ... morehad the Head Rebuilt, Manifolds Replaced, Rebuilt Carburetor, that work was all done in the last 5 years. The Wide Front has the Correct JD1290R 16" Heavy Duty Wheels, New Flywheel Side Steering Arm on the Wide Front. There are No Cracks or Breaks anywhere on the Front End. The Front Hubs have bolts going completely through with nuts on the backside. Sheetmetal is Pretty Straight, There are a couple of small dings on the top front of the nosecone but nothing deep or creased. Also the hood has a couple of dings on the top closer back towards the dash(see photo) No Rust Through Damage Anywhere. There is a little hinged panel bolted to the hood that was used to keep the weather off of the distributor. The Power-Steering works like a new car and is very easy to steer but the pump does leak, and since the time we have owned it and used it nearly 2 years, we have only added oil to it once. Brakes Work, Transmission Shifts and Operates in all of the gears and works as it should. The Clutch is probably going to need some new friction discs in it, its getting hard to get the pulley to stop by pulling the clutch lever back, we will try to adjust it and get it in better working order

1959 John Deere 630 serial number 6303741. This tractor runs good and is running in the photos, it has a schwartz wide front, and good working power steering, the brakes, clutch and transmissin all work good, the PTO works good, the sheetmetal is solid there are a few dings but nice and solid, also has one new grill screen, does not smoke and has good high oil pressure, also has the correct two cylinder fenders and brackets, they are rusty by the brackets but are sturdy could be restored or just used as is, the rims are good and solid, the rear tires are 13.6/38 at 70% but older, the front tires are very good, has a original generator, spark plug covers, cylinder hanger, float ride seat and all three lights, with the rear light having the red light in it, also has new batery cable to the starter, the manifold has one spot of JB weld on it. ... moreThis is a ice running tractor, solid tin and good rims I am not sure of hours as tach. is not sorking I think it reads around 5500 hours but I am not sure of original hours or when it quit working it does run and drive good. 1959 John Deere 530 gas. Serial# 5300900. Up for auction with NO RESERVE is a Restored 1959 John Deere 530 gas. This tractor comes with a 3 point hitch( all free. Minus center link, sway blocks) rebuilt carb, flat top fenders( new gen) new muffler, new steering wheel with center, new decals, new front emblem, new key switch/knob, float ride seat, roll-o-matic front end, single hydraulics, and a cylinder hanger. New rubber grommet around the gas fill comes with the tractor at the conclusion of the auction. All the lights are present on the tractor( not working) The power steering is one finger both ways. The metal is in good condition with a few minor dents and dings. If I would rate the paint on this tractor it would be an 8 out of 10. The metal has very little bondo( if any) The oil bath air cleaner has a couple of dents on it( shown in ... morephoto) The fenders have some minor dents and dings in them also. The tractor runs and drives out good. All the gears work as they should. The PTO works good, and the PTO brake works as it should. The manifolds are cracked( shown in photo) minor fix. The tractor holds good oil pressure when running( shown in photo) Both brakes on the tractor work good. You have to pull the left brake back with your foot just a little, but the right brake moves back freely on its own to the proper location. The gauges are in good working condition. One rear casting is missing 1 bolt, the other side isn't missing any bolts. The rear tires are miss matched with weather checking. One rear tire is a Continental 13.6-36@ 40% The other rear tire is a Veith Pirelli 13.6/12-36@ 50% Both rear rims are in good shape. The front tires are miss matched with weather checking. One front tire is a Goodyear 5.50-16@ 30% The other front tire is a Farm Friend 5.50-16@ 40% Both front rims are correct(JD1268R) and are in good condition( minor flaws) NOTE: This tractor has a foot pedal for the starter.
