Recently picked it up at an auction. Looks like it once belonged to Metropolitan Edison Co. in Reading. PA. This unit was for 250 volts The wood case is still in pretty good condition. Some laminate lost on the front of case at the right bottom. Some laminate loss. Looks like top broke off from main unit by the hinges at one time and a piece of the top is missing. Glass over the dial is intact. Last patent date shown on the unit is June 1917. On same label in the left top corner is 11-17-21. The needle does move when the unit is moved side to side. The neat thing about this model is it's high frequency AC. Polarity is not important for DC and that the needle will move very slowly(many hours) back to zero after recording a light static charge. HP 3440A Digital Voltmeter with 3444A DC Volt-Amp-Ohm Unit, Works
The HP Hewlett Packard 3440A Digital Voltmeter was one of the top selling products sold by HP during the 1960s. It was designed to measure DC voltages from 1 millivolt to 1000 volts and to be used with plug-in units for other measurements. Used with the model 3444A DC Multi-Function unit. It provides 5 full scale range measurements of 100 millivolts to 1000 volts, 100 microamps to 1000 milliamps and 1000 ohms to 10 megohms. Included in this auction is a HP3440A with a 3444A plug-in unit with power cord. I tried out the unit and everything I tried worked. I measured a variety of resistors from 15 ohms to 10 Megohms which exercised all 5 ranges of the unit and got results within the tolerance of the resistors. I made some voltage. Resistance and current measurements on the 10 volt/100K/10ma range which were compared to same measurements on ... morea newer digital voltmeter with comparable results(see pictures, the newer meter is not included) The inside seems quite clean and other than a few scratches, scraps and scuffs, the outside cabinet is in good condition for being probably 40 years old. There is some writing on the bottom which is probably from when the item was sold in a surplus sale. It looks like it was last calibrated in 1972. I did no testing at all of the remote control or the recording option. The unit with its handles and mounting brackets measures approximately 19" wide, 13" deep and 5-1/4" high.

Unusual twin-movement Weston Model 56 DC Voltmeter - Steampunk!- Tested, working
This monster is over a foot wide and weighs almost 12 pounds. Manufactured by the Weston Electrical Instrument Co. Model 56; Serial No. 2149 The LEFT movement has binding posts labeled 3 volts. 150 volts, and 300 volts. All ranges tested and working. The RIGHT movement has a binding post labeled 50 MV. Touching an almost-dead AA cell to it causes the meter to deflect. I am not sure what this half of the meter is actually designed for. As the scale reads to 500 and there is a big"A" engraved in the brass(as opposed to the"V"for-volts on the opposite side) Professional quality. Presumably cost a mint back in 1901, the newest date of its patents. The wooden case is intact, but shows every bit of its 100+ year age. The feet are"new" replacements from the 1970's.
