The sort of tester you need if you really want to tell if a tube is working to specifications vs if its just good or bad. The 981 is a true Mutual Transconductance tube tester and measures actual mutual transconductance(GM) This tester is in very good overall condition. I purchased it as a tester that had been gone through and calibrated by a professional. I tested about two dozen tubes over two years and it works perfectly. All controls are positive and move freely. Other than a few scratches it looks and works as new. Included it a copy of the original instruction manual. It absolutly needs a new power cord before it could even be tested safely but, after noticing some screws missing on the cover I had to open it up to make sure it wasn't gutted. As you can see in the pictures aside from a coating of dust the interior looks surprisingly good with no evidence that anything but age has deteriorated the cord on the outside of the cover, even the paper roll looks quite good. This is a large heavy object so shipping will be quoted as parcel post. If you live between the mountains like me and won't get hit by the post office for a substantial upcharge for oversize packages or just want it fast I'll offer Priority Mail as an option. jackson 648R rebuilt and calibrated vacuum tube tester pristine condition IMO
I have a Jackson 648R cleaned. Rebuilt and calibrated to"within" spec of the plate current(V-Z) Currents are:V=5MA, W=16.4MA, X=1.37MA, Y=2.62MA and Z is 9.4MA at control of 50% half scale. This is as close as I can get it. If you have ever rebuilt one of these you would know why I state that. All resistors that needed replaced are new within specs. The.1 MFD cap is new. All pots cleaned all contacts cleaned. At some point someone scratched in the test letters as the picture shows. I don't know why but they did. As you may find in a lot of tube testers are the issues with high voltages at the heater. This tester is"IMO" within the ranges needed to test tubes at the proper heater voltage for accurate readings. Roll chart functions flawlessly. Does include original supplemental tube data and owners manual. The case shows ... morea little wear but not bad at all for its age. Offered for auction is a nice vintage Precision Tube Tester Model number10-12 serial number 8205 made by the Precision Apparatus Company in the U.S.A. The tester comes with two original Precision Books including a Supplementary Tube Data for tubes that are not included on the built in roll chart and and the other is Tube Test Data which mainly mirrors the roll chart but has lots of other information for tubes not on the chart such as Novars and Compactrons and some later tubes. The tester is in excellent working condition and the front operators panel is actually in very nice original condition showing very minimal wear however the wood case does show obvious wear from years of reliable use. Seco Vacuum Tube Tester Model 107 Nice!
Here's a nice working Seco Vacuum tube tester. It's model 107. I took a tube out of a 1930's radio and plugged the tube into the appropriate slot. A little light came on at the top of the tube and when pressing the red button for tester. The meter went up to about the? range. That's about all I know about these units. The vinyl coated case measures 13 1/4" x 9" x 5 3/4" deep. Cosmetically. The outside of the case does not look that great, but sturdy and no major damage. The tester comes with it's original flip chart. This model also has an extra 3-slot tester thats wired into the case. Two of the little black handles are missing on the Circuit Selector and Special Types settings. This is a very heavy unit weighing 11 Lbs. so I'll be using calculated shipping. Vintage test equipment in used condition. Has missing/wrong screws on face plate. There is some electrical tape around the power cord where it goes through the plaate. The carrying case shows signs of wear but overall very good condition. The paper reel is intact with no tears and the thumb dial works smoothly. Testing: Unit powers up. The line adjust works. Tested a few known good and bad tubes on the 9-pin socket only. It"passed" the good tubes and"failed" the bad ones so it appears to be somewhat functional. Hickok Model 800 Mutual Conductance Tube Tester with manual in good condition
I have for your consideration a Hickok 800 mutual conductance tube tester in good condition. I purchased this tester used last year. And it is in good working condition. The inside face plate shows a very little wear. And I suspect it was not used much in its past history. The outer case has a couple very small tears in the cloth covering that do not at all detract from how it works. If you are looking at tube testers you probably already know that mutual conductance testers are the best ones you can buy for really determining if a tube is good or bad. This tester has inputs for a very wide verity of tube types including early ones. As you can see in the pictures. I replaced the only 2 paper capacitors in it. One electrolytic across the meter and the other one on the main selector. I have taken a picture of them, and you will see them next ... moreto each other in the picture. The one regular paper cap I replaced with a high quality Audio cap that is black in the picture, and the electrolytic on the meter I replaced with a nichicon. It worked well both before and after I replaced the caps, but I replaced them as a precaution, since paper caps dry out and go bad. The two tubes in the tester itself I did not replace. And they both work well. If these tubes are replaced you are supposed to do a calibration afterward, per the manual. I suspect they are the originals. I never felt the need to calibrate the tester when I used since it worked well when I got it. But the re-calibration procedure is in the included manual if you choose to do so. It always worked very well for me as it is. I used it to test tubes for my hobby of antique radio repair that I am getting out of now. The pictures are the best indication of condition. I have packed it well and will ship USPS only. Since I live in a small town and am not near any other shipper. It was made in the USA and while I am not sure of the date I would guess it to be late 1950s. There is no model number on it. Though it appears very similiar to 600 series units I have seen. This vintage unit tests 4, 5, 6 and 7"big pin" tubes as well as octal, loktal, 7& 9 pin miniatures. It is not setup for subminiatures, compactrons or nuvistors. The case measures approximately 14"x10"x6" The unit shows some normal wear and tear, the worst damage being a slight bend to the pointer on the meter(see photos. I checked a few tubes with it and found that some seemed to work fine but others did not show any reading at all. Only five or six tubes have been tested on this unit since calibration by Roger. Out-of-spec resistors replaced. Old Capacitors replaced. Pots opened up and cleaned. I inherited this from my dad when he passed away last year. He collected many unusual items and I like finding them. He told me before he passed that he wanted these things to help me financially. He kept anything he could if thought it might be worth anything down the road. My daughter. His oldest grand-daughter, is getting married, I know he would be happy knowing that some of the things he left helped to give her a nice wedding. This particular item may have been used when he was in the Navy. Or when he and his father had an electronic store(t.v.s, etc. somewhere around the 50's or 60's. But I have never used it much, since I dont normally have a need for this. It will work with any dynamic type tube tester. As stated in the manual. It has 6 different heads for testing all different types of picture tubes. As well as a color gun switch to test the seperate color sections. This is a very rare unit. I have used this tester and it seems to work fine although seeing as it is roughly 50 years old it could probably use some maintenance.
