For sale is a Tungsten pig which is superior to lead pigs for storage of radioactive minerals or for element collectors.This is a storage container. Known as a pig, intended for storing highly radioactive isotopes used in the PET imaging. Lead pigs are by far the most common shielding containers encountered in a nuclear pharamacy, however this pig is made of tungsten. Tungsten is very dense, much denser than lead. For the most part this means it is better at blocking decay products than lead.At 6170°F(3410°C) tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal. The pig weighs 4lbs. It measures 8.5 inches long by roughly 1.5 inches. The internal diameter is 0.85 inches.

You are bidding on an unusual collectable from the Silver Valley of North Idaho. It is a mini-pig lead produced by the famous Bunker Hill Smelter. About 3” long. Condition– The mini‘pig’ is in good condition. It shows‘BUNKER HILL’ in reverse relief. In very readable condition. It is a chunk of‘refined’ lead after all. So does not have the polished exterior one might expect from a chunk of stainless steel. So. The lead is basically undamaged, and showing minor blemishes and surface wear. The box is intact. As far as the four sides. The flaps and closures are no longer present. So. It is more like a cardboard tube, with good graphics still visible. There is a small red stain(1/8” diameter) on one cardboard side. And some obvious wear and tear on the edges. Otherwise. Decent. Overall. In good condition. This rare vintage Britain made pig was part of a collection of my Dad's that he incorporated into his Lionel train layouts. Most of my Dad's train purchases were made between 1947 and 1950. My Dad left his train collection to me in 1999. A while before he died, and I had hopes of picking up where he left off. While I have many of my Dad's hobbies, the reality of making the time to embrace his train enthusiasm seems so distant.
