ORIGINAL 1934 GIBSON L-1, L-0, L-00 ACOUSTIC GUITAR HEAVILY PLAYED, SOUNDS GREAT
This is a 1934 Gibson L-1. Serial number(Factory Order Number) 1022 stamped on the neck block, in good condition. It is a step or grade higher than just a L-0 or L-00. The kirfling on the inside and the back binding is the difference. The original finish on this instrument shows extensive playing wear. With a lot of pick wear around the sound hole and below the fingerboard on the guitar’s top. The mahogany sides and back are in good condition, with no apparent cracks in the wood. The top has a hairline seam separation on the center seam behind the bridge, as seen in the fifth picture close-up, although it doesn't seem to affect play-ability and the guitar stays strung up at full tension. There are no other structural issues: there are no neck cracks or headstock repairs. The neck is straight and the 6 th string height at the 12 th fret ... moreis 7/64 of an inch. The original bridge saddle has been lowered over the years to the point that the guitar will eventually need a neck re-set. But for now, the guitar plays and sounds just fine. The bridge is the original small-sized Brazilian, and the bridgeplate is original, as well, as seen in the close-up inspection mirror picture. This guitar features its original fire-stripe pickguard. Although it is lifting a little bit on a couple of the edges. The frets have been recently dressed, so there is no fret buzzing, and the original nut has a small shim under it. The original tuners were replaced long ago with small Grovers. The originals are unavailable. The neck is a medium thick V-neck shaped contour. The fingerboard width at the stringnut is 1 11/16-inches. This fine vintage Gibson acoustic weighs a light 3 pounds, 6.8 ounces, is thus very resonant and has that great Gibson pre-war sound. The bracing is solid and the guitar once had a trapeze tailpiece screwed into the rim above the endpin strap button. As you can see in the close-up, there are little holes drilled in the back rim. Of course, they do not affect the sound or the structural integrity of the guitar at all,
