This vintage menu is not dated. But it was found in a folder with earl 1980’s papers, documents and ephemera– best guesstimate circa 1981 to 1982. Paper menu from the PEKING RESTAURANT at 122 South 9 th Street. Columbia, MO/ Missouri The menu is long and would not completely fit on my scanner. So I have attempted to show the various segments– The front shows a pagoda design and information on the restaurant. The back is plain. It opens for a full long menu. Folded it measures approx. 14 ¼ by 4 3/8ths inches. The interior gives the items and the prices for the early 1980s Condition: very nice– unmarked. No rips, no tears– does show some light age toning and has been folded for many years and so shows a light fold line. This is an original, but the paper looks similar to a light copy paper. This little ceramic plate or tip tray looks like a small picture in a green rococo frame. It dates from the 1950s and was made for a famous restaurant on the Piazza Navona in Rome. The name of the establishment is TRE SCALINI and it appears in the background on the picture which features one of the famous fountains on the piazza. The words on the back tell us the TRE SCALINI was a RISTORANTE-BAR-GELATERIA and lists a few of their specialities. One of the most famous was the ice cream known as GELATO TARTUFO and few tourists in the 1950s could leave Rome without trying it. The plate measures 5 inches by 5 3/4 inches and is in perfect condition. A wonderful and rare item for a collection of travel memorabilia.

Kinsley Restaurant - Hof Brau Chicago - 1885 - Beautiful Hotel Silver Dish
Offered for your consideration is an ultra rare 1885– bottom marked 10” wide(from end to end to across the handles) x 5 1/8” by 1 ½” tall double handle serving bowl made for the H.M. Kinsley’s Restaurant that was located in Chicago. Illinois. This piece was later used by circa, 1905, by the Hof Brau Restaurant located in Chicago that was owned by the Schoenhofen Brewery. This is a very rare and most beautiful pattern of silver plate that was used in both of these now long gone and almost forgotten elegant pre-prohibition Chicago restaurants. Besides the pieces that I have had in my collection. These are the only pieces that I have seen or had. If you collect historic Chicago items, Scheonhofen Brewery, or vintage hotel silver, you might want to consider this most amazing piece for your collection. Historically. Herbert M. Kinsley was ... moreoriginally from Massachusetts and started his career early on in retail by the late 1840’s. By the 1850’s, he had moved to Cincinnati, where he was involved in hotel operations. It was in 1865, he again moved to Chicago, Illinois, where early on he operated the restaurant at the Chicago Opera House. But after selling this, he actually began operating restaurants and dining car food service for the Chicago& North Western Railroad, as well as, opening another restaurant in nearby Riverside. However, these ventures did not prove successful and Kinsley left to start opening hotels that were located along the lines of the Baltimore& Ohio Railroad. It wasn’t until 1874 that Kinsley returned back to Chicago. Were he took over the operations of the Brown’s restaurant, but that too failed. However, Kinsley did continue his successful catering operations. It wasn’t until 1884 that Kinsley made the decision to again enter the restaurant business. After careful planning, he opened what was then called“Chicago’s finest restaurant” and named it“H.M. Kinsley’s” Kinsley also was co-owner with his son-in-law, Gustav Baumann, when in 1891 the opened the“Holland House” in New York City. A
