Up for the auction is this fantastic early office machine in a perfect working condition. It is a macerating check protector created to emboss the dollar amount on the paper check or any other document co that it cannot be altered. It is made of cast iron( looks like the finish is dark brown with some little discoloration on one side- see pic. 4) and still has almost all of gilded decorations on all the sides. Oak Roll Top Office Desk by Northwestern Furniture Company. Milwaukee, WI: I'm not sure what era this comes from. But it appears to be older. It has a metal locking plate attached to the bottom of the rolltop that is labeled"Northwestern Furniture Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The metal plate that attaches to the desk surface is missing, as is the key, so currently, the rolltop can not be locked in place. The desk measures 5' long. 2'6" deep, 3'6.25" tall in the back, and 2'6" tall at the height of the desk. The top surface area of the desk, above the rolltop is 5' long by 11" wide. The flat desk surface area is 4'6.25" wide by 2'0.25" deep. There is a center drawer that measures 24-3/8" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 2" deep. Each of the three drawers on ... morethe left side, and the top drawer on the right side are 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 4.25" deep. The bottom file drawer on the right side is 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 10" deep. There are two flat oak writing shelves on the top of each side of drawers that pull out. The shelving underneath the rolltop portion, from the left, consists of two shelves underwhich is a drawer, three alternating open shelves with three drawers, and two sets of two open shelves with a drawer beneath each of them. There are also two pen/pencil holders near the middle, below the shelves/drawers. Overall. This desk is in nice condition, but does have some imperfections to mention. It appears that it has been refinished at some point in a satin finish polyurethane. Although it presents itself very well, it isn't perfect and does have a few small nicks/scratches in the surface, but none that are very bad. There is no structural damage and it is sturdy in place. But there is a maker's mark on the underside of the bowl. The mark is[ A E] Also on the underside of the bowl is the assay office's mark. The spoon was assayed in Vienna. The silver content,13" for 813/1000 silver, is in a circle directly below the"A" for the Vienna Assay office. The date is numbered from left to right, top to bottom. Lozenge. with"A" inside it at top, circle below the"A" Vienna] with 13 in circle for 813/1000 silver. In the corners of the lozenge, left to right, top to bottom, 1 8 5 0[1850] The decorative motif is dominated by a bearded face. In the Baroque style.
