9 patch quilt made from red. Blue and black wools. It measures 68" x 88" The back is a blue flannel. It has been hand tied with red string. There are some blue wool pieces that do have some damage with moth holes. If you notice in the pictures there is a black and white print that borders three sides while a grayish black borders the other side. There are 6 blue squares that have some damage with 2 having quite a bit of damage. There is also a mended place on the black with white stripped piece, see picture. The back has no holes or tears. RARE Pennsylvania Amish Hand Spun& Knit Child's Wedding Stocking Socks- c. 1839-1913 A Unique Find. Unlike other Wedding Socks from this Lancaster Pennsylvania collection, these are CHILDREN'S SIZE! This is one of four Amish Sock Listings this week! The previous collector has provided us with information on its provenance. They were knitted by Susan Lapp Berkey(5/11/1839- 10/20/1913) for her daughter Mary Berkey Stoltzfus(11/10/1877- 3/18/1947) They were purchased from Stoltzfus' daughter. Sara Beile, in March of 1988. Between 1860 and 1920. Old Order Amish women in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, knit colorful knee-length stockings, many with scalloped tops in vivid contrasting hues from purple, rose, and pink to brown, green, and blue. These stockings were part of private dress, as the long dresses and laced black boots ... morehid their stockings. Sometimes these colorful stockings are called"wedding" stockings; only adult women wore them and perhaps as part of their wedding clothing. They may have knit and worn such stockings because the Lancaster County Amish lived near Germantown, Pennsylvania, home to mills that manufactured"Germantown" yarns. During the 1860's, these mills used the first synthetic aniline dyes to create a much wider ranger of bright-colored yarns than were previously available. Amish life was private, but never closed to outside influences. Perhaps they used inexpensive mill ends of yarn for their stocking tops. Women knit their stockings to a gauge of about ten stitches per inch in the round from the top edge down using double-pointed needles, shaping the calf and toe with careful decreases and usually turning a round heel. The Amish began to buy their stockings and mittens during the first half of the twentieth century. Though some knitters continued to make mittens and stockings for their families. Stunning Antique Pinwheel Quilt Amazing 19th century. Hand stitched, indigo blue and white cotton antique quilt in a pinwheel design. This quilt has approximately 10 or more stitches per inch, they are so tiny and so close together that it is almost impossible to count them. Rare, handmade, all cotton quilt with cotton batting. Condition: Old. With wear, some bits on the quilt the fabric has worn down and one can see the cotton batting, but this does not take away from the beauty of this old charmer. The wear is in various place, as well as areas that are in excellent vintage condition. White background with white backing and indigo blue with white dots tiny patchwork pinwheel design make this a really collectible quilt for anyone. One corner of the quilt has the border off and a bit loose, but not unraveling as this beauty was expertly hand stitched and hard to take apart. In some areas of the Indigo blue patchwork there is slight fading.all issues are due to age as well as some black spotting in other areas. These were acquired from the original owner and he told me that one was purchased in the late'70's and the other in the mid'80's and in those days you couldn't buy anything with style. The pretty pattern has tulips with a staggered edge and there is a wide hem around the linen with a pulled thread trim. This cloth measures 122 cms sqaure. It is in near perfect condition. This is a vintage hand carved figure of an Eskimo hunting a walrus. In a stone that looks like slate. There are some"accessories" missing, one walrus tusk and the hunter is missing something from each hand. One would certainly be his spear. The man is mounted to the bottom piece with the two pieces of wooden"dowel" as shown. This was glued together at one time. They are separate now, but fit together nicely as they are.
