Marked"Pat. May 14. 1918" and"star symbol 5" as well as a few various numbers, this antique cast iron and wood tape dispenser was likely made by the"Gummed Products Co. of Troy Ohio which existed from about 1914 until the mid 1950s. According to research the current company name is"Troy Laminating& Coating Inc" a Chargeurs company) and still operates in Troy, Ohio. Completely untested and being sold"as is" this neat little what-cha-ma-call-it conversation piece measures about 9.5" long and about 5" by about 4" otherwise. Certainly not in perfect condition but ok and very visually unusual and cool looking with a neat old midwestern USA story behind it! Compare to other similar devices on here and save BIG $$$$!

This shiny tape dispenser has a cover that flips open to replace a roll of standard size adhesive tape. The lever on the side locks a suction between the rubber on the back and any hard smooth surface. It also has two serrated metal edges to cut the tape. The Vacu-Taper is approximately 2 ¼” in height. 3” in width and 5 ¼” in length. It is in excellent USED condition with just a few small surface scratches. This rather cool, antique general store/butcher shop tape dispenser is used with tan, gummed paper sealing tape. It was manufactured by the Dry-Tab Package Sealer Co.Perfection Package Sealer Co. Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio. Dry Tab Sealer Type A United States and Foreign Countries Patents My Grandfather remembered this tape dispenser being in the general store in his hometown back in North Carolina. That store closed in the mid-1950's at which time Granddad purchased this item and used it in his millhouse. I have kept it in the family all these years. But it is now ready to find a new and good home. It is made out of Die cast aluminum or alloy. The condition is very good considering the age of this piece and the working ... morelife it has lead over the passage of the last nearly 75 years. It is equipped with a water reservoir and a built-in brush which wets the tape as you pull it toward you. One can easily pull and cut the tape out without getting your hands wet or gummy. Very nice lightly used 555ES up for offers. Or just buy it now. I disassembled the unit to clean and check all functions of this unit. It has a new brush. The chain drive has been inspected for proper tension and lubed. All of the tape particles and dust(from use) has been cleaned and removed. The blade and cleaner felt has been oiled properly. All of the size buttons work properly. As do the repeat and remaining buttons. It has the water bottle. Water tray, new brush and power cord. The heater top has very minimal cut marks and heats up perfectly. Normally they have numerous deep cut marks from untrained users. In some of the pics it shows it disasembled but that was when I was refurbing it. It is fully assembled now and funtions perfectly.
