Antique Western Electric 1920's Telephone A1 D76869 Phone (pre-public)
Base is stamped D76869 and handset says E1. Phone has a chip out of the back side of the mouth piece. Shipping to the US only. Listed E45. From a telephone collectors website: Do you know your ABC’s? I suspect you do. But there is one set of letters that apparently is not well-known to telephone collectors and those are the letters that identify the various and sundry early desksets that came after the candlesticks or deskstands, as they were known. Numbers and or letters have always been used by Western Electric or the Bell System to identify phones. There’s the early#10. 20B and 20AL sticks as well as the 50AL and 151AL dial sticks. So it’s no surprise that the very first type deskset made by Western Electric, which looks a little like a cutoff candlestick with a handset was known as the D76869 and later renamed the"A1" when issued ... morefor the first time to the public. The round base A1 mentioned above began life as a prototype phone(Pat. Date 1922) which was given a design number until it was renamed with an"A1" stamped on the back of the neck. This phone. Which looked like a candlestick cutoff, was in fact not a cutoff but a new design and was called a D76869 phone until issued to the public in or around 1925. These early pre-public sets were used within the Bell System central offices and no doubt in their business offices as well. Just plug it in and start talking. We have used the phone. It dials out and receives calls. The buzzer for the ringer does work. Vintage All Original Samson Telephone Earphone – with cord, hook, relief chain
From the 1930s or perhaps earlier. This vital component has all of its parts. I am not able to test it but it looks well cared for. The black plastic(bakelite? has surface scratches but is not cracked or chipped. It unscrews smoothly and the inner surface(diaphragm) is intact with no scratches or flaws. The nickel finish on the back will definitely brighten up if you want to polish it, but I’m liking its patina. The cloth-covered cord is about 23” long and the earpiece measures 2 3/8” round x 1” thick with the hook holder adding another ¾” Weighs about 7 oz. I do not ship to post office boxes. For this item. This is a medium thread Swedish American mouthpiece. It measures 15/16" wide at the threads and 1 1/2" tall. The opening of the mouth piece is 2" wide. If you have an antique wall phone or Candlestick phone which is missing it's mouthpiece. This should complete it. Some companies with medium thread face plate phones are, North, Dean, Modern, Couch Ericsson, Utica Fire Alarm, Voight Berger, Sumter, Swedish American, and Lord Electric. This mouthpiece also has an open end which is indicitive of an earlier style phone. It has been repaired and the threads are in good shape. Please note the pictures. Fantastic Antique Model 317 wooden wall telephone made by the Western Electric Company in 1911. Made of well finished oak with a dark stain. When you crank the handle the large bells ring beautifully. The reciever and mouth piece are original. The receiver cord is a rare rattlesnake cord. Generator still in tact. Bells are nickel plated and have acquired a handsome patina. Wood in great condition. Tiny bit of chipped paint on bells, mouthpiece and receiver are Bakelite. Measures 9" wide by 20 1/2"tall. I did a little online research and found out this is a TYPE 92 field phone from the late World War Two era! Wood& metal box measures about 4-1/2 wide. 6-3/4 tall, and 10-3/4 inches long. Original serial number#139354 in printed two different places on the box. A complete wiring schematic is printed inside the top lid. All in Japanese. Very nice little metal finger-locks on both doors* Top opens to reveal the receiver and mouth piece laying in cut-out felt sections. Everything seems to be there. Terminals. Speaker, cloth wires, crank and the ... morelarge black"SEND" button on the back etc. The front of the box also hinges down to reveal the inner workings of the phone. They were were acquired at a recent auction of items from the Cleveland Telephone Pioneers Museum. They were apparently part of a display of early telephony. They appear to have been turned from pine stock, with hardware added to look like early wood receivers. The condition is generally very good. Vtg Museum Display Bell System Telephone History Posters- 1875 and 1900 phones These two posters each measure about 14" x 21.5" Signed Sheehan. They were were acquired at a recent auction of items from the Cleveland Telephone Pioneers Museum. The condition is generally very good. With some damage along the edges and a few minor chips or stains elsewhere. The 1875 poster has a small hole where it was hung on a nail. They are undated. From similar posters and Bell System ads. I estimate they were from the late 1930s or early 1940s. But am not certain. These were apparently hung for display. But have fold-out stands, so they can sit self-supported on a shelf or table. The colors in the photos below vary somewhat. As some were taken outdoors in partial shade. The dark blotch on the bottom right is a shadow. Not a defect. Photo taken ... moreoutdoors. This is a very nice example of a 1970s Bell System modern desk telephone. This phone predates modular phones. These were in use when the Telephone Man had to install, service and remove phone. This phone belonged to the Bell System! It is in very nice condition. There is some fading to the top of it, no cracks, chips or bad scratches! The cords are in very nice condition.
