Western Electric 302 Antique Telephone 1946-1954
This is an old Western Electric 302-Thermoplastic housing phone. These phones were made in 1942 and due to World War II discontinued until 1946 and then produced until 1954. This phone is an excellent representation of the era. It has two problems with the thermoplastic housing: a crack on the front left and a chip on the back but the screw holding the bottom panel is still attached. The phone has not been reworked to operate on current day telecommunications. Great art deco piece. You will love the"Wait for Dial Tone" and the phone number"VIking 3-1124" on the rotary dial. This is a Kellogg 1000 Series Red Bar Rotary Desk Telephone. The end of the wall cord has a modular jack spliced onto it. I plugged it into my magicjack and got dial tone but the magicjack isn't set up for rotary phones so I didn't call out. Dial operates as it should. It has the usual paint losses and scratches as well as a small chip on the edge of the redbar. The outer insulation on the cords is old and split some. I am an old man and grew up with phones like this in the house so I am somewhat familiar with them. This listing is for a very unusual piece of history. It is a wall telephone patented in 1896 by the GARL ELECTRIC COMPANY of Akron. Ohio. I am not sure if it was for a train. A trolly, a hotel or a home. It is hard to find much information on it or on the Garl Electric Company but here is what I found: The Garl Electric Company was located in Akron. Ohio. It was a very small company, but produced several different products including burglar alarms, fire alarms, police alarms, thermostats, jack boxes, annunciators, telephone supplies and telephones. They also made street corner fire alarm pull boxes, telephone switchboards, car turn signals and brake lights and an electric igniter for automobiles. Manious and his wife Linnie ran this very small company. He was the inventor of 26 electrical patents. It was made to hang on the wall. It has a ... morespeaker and an ear piece at the end of a double wire that hangs on the side. There is a bell on the top and a switch with 6 numbered electrical contacts at the bottom. The case is made of wood. It measures 9" tall x 4.5" wide(plus hook to hold ear piece) x 3.5" deep. Study my pictures and you will be able to see what features it has. It is in pretty incredible condition for a telephone from 1896. But I am selling it as is. I haven't cleaned it up at all. Only bottom& dial wheel werent painted which looks exact. Phone has older 5H dial with contacts like#4 dial. Mint celluloid dial plate. MATCHING DATES! Dial& Indiction coil, IV/37(means fourth quarter of 1937. Base 11/37,No ringer date. F1 trans, 11/37 Receiver, 11/24/37& cap 11/13/37.1937 on handset shell. Cords are at least 65 years old and are very good. Feet are screwed on& in good condition. Notice differences found in later metal models. This phone has: reversed induction coil. You are buying a Western Electric Bell System Phone made out of Metal. This is heavy! Please look at all the pictures. This would be great for a project. Metal phones are getting harder to find. I can't believe that phones were made of metal back in the days. Today's phones are made of plastic and don't even last long. Overall its in ok shape for its age. Some of the paint is coming off. Its dirty and dingy. I stamp inside in 1939. There are other dates also. I did nothing to the phone. Just a quick wipe down. I wanted to leave the cleaning up to the new person. This listing is for an early 1980's Western Electric Celebrity Rotary Telephone in a soft turquoise green color. I have tested this telephone and the telephone makes and receives telephone calls. The rotary dial turns and returns very smoothly. The Ring! Ring! Ringer! sounds too cute. The ringer can be adjusted by sliding the switch from high to low(switch is located on the bottom) I cleaned the outside of the telephone and the matching curly cord. Also. The rubber pads on the bottom were either missing or very old, so I added four matching rubber pads to the bottom(see photo) The cradle on this telephone matches the cradle design in old press photos of the first Celebrity telephones that were produced by Western Electric. Bell System C/D 500 1963 Black Rotary Telephone Western Electric 1/4" Jack Metal
This phone has a 1/4" jack and I have no way to test whether it functions or not. The dial rotates smoothly and easily. And returns just the same. Aside from some rust coming from the foot screws it seems to be in great condition for its age. I took it apart so you could have a look inside, I haven't attempted to clean or disassemble it any further. I will only do international shipments via USPS Priority International. This piece was designed for the US Army Corps. Who needed a rugged telephone to weather rough conditions. Enamel dial rotates smoothly, and looks great! Because these older phones were the same style for decades, you can actually date them by the type of feet they have. These are triangular neoprene, which tells me this particular phone was manufactured between 1958 to 1963.
