This power amplifier works perfectly. The meters work and light up. But I think it needs some lamps as the power button does not light up anymore, and I think it used to light up between the meters. Carver TFM-25 Stereo or Mono Power Amplifier - Needs Help?
PLEASE READ MY ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS OR BIDDING! THANKS! This is a Carver TFM-25 stereo or mono power amplifier. Designed for stereo but can be bridged for mono if you want separate amps. Rated at 225w. See the specs in the description up top. The unit powers up and makes a LOT of power. It does have some artifacts. Which I'm not sure are defects or just the way this unit works. I don't have a pre-amp anymore so I ran it with a Denon receiver. When I turn it on, it gives the usual pop, then when the actual amp powers on there is some background hiss and a very quiet hum. Neither of these gets louder with volume. I would say the hiss/hum is similar to that of a guitar amp. Don't know if this is a regular feature of these Carvers, if it needs a tuneup(possible considering it's age) or if it wants a cleaner ... moreor less amplified input than the one from my Denon. It does not have the transformer buzzing that I hear is common with Carvers. Other stuff? Meters work, light up and are adjustable with the dimmer. It looks very good but the"ears" that hold the handles are tweaked very slightly, I couldn't even get it to be visible in the photos. No dents, scratches, etc. not even on the top. It looks better than the photos, it's kinda dusty and fingerprinted from testing it and that show up in the the flashes. Anyway, I'm selling this unit as a possible fixer-upper- buyer should be aware of that before bidding. It will not be DOA, but it may not sound as clean as it should.
