From a recent TN estate is offered a wonderful circa 1790- 1820 Virginia child's chair. The turned walnut chair retains the original split oak seat and has an old red paint surface. The chair displays skilled turning with incised lines just below the top slat. The chair has mortise and tenon construction. There are four small early cut nails on the upper back holding the top slat in place. This appears to be a later repair as the top slat has a tight horizontal crack about 2/3 the way across. The funnel portion is metal, also the round section and gears. The gears do turn nicely by turning the hand crank. It also had a cloth cotton type of sling attached but it just fell apart to dozens on pieces and I didn't try to salvage them, I bought straight out of a beautiful old barn here in Connecticut. The paper label fell off when I was looking it over and it can be put back. The label states it is The Cyclone, Pat March 29, 1892 and the instructions as how to use. The bottom portion of the label is missing and probably had the maker and region made. I think rare is often over-used on ebay. But it is indeed rare for a figure like this to have survived a non-museum environment intact! Hand carved from wood, glass eyes, articulated knees, thighs, elbows and sholders, this is an amazing piece of old-time craftsmanship. I feel comfortable dating this no later than the early 1800's, possibly 1700's. Very nice expression, has alot of wear to polychrome paint(see photos) Does have some worm holes, but is not chipped or cracked. Feet are clad with old leather glued on bottom(probably had sandal straps on top at some point) He measures 20" tall. Clothing is tattered. Probably is not original- looks more Victorian era. Looks to have been made from an old packing crate(see photo of the bottom which says Imported Candied Citron Broken) with those box dovetails you see on ammo boxes, New paint. Distressed and waxed. Whoever painted it went over the inside edge of the door- you can paint or sand off so it looks a bit neater. Can either hang or sit on a counter. Table, or is high enough to be used as a side table with storage inside, No issues. Other than what looks to have been a crack on the back panel, filled in and painted over, so secure. Cool Shabby Primitive Green Paint Wood Antique Medicine Cabinet 'Eyebrow' Trim !
Hi: For your consideration here is a very cool antique wooden medicine cabinet! Measuring from the back the dimensions of this cabinet are about 21 1/4" high x 17 1/2" wide x 5 3/4" deep. The cabinet has two metal hangers on the top. There may have been a mirror in this piece at one time but it now has a piece of glass that appears newer than the cabinet which we are estimating dates to the early 1900's. Possibly earlier. The door has a neat long spring that controls the opening and closing, but the door has a tendency(at least in our Pacific NW humidity) to close with about a 1/4" side gap. There is a single wooden'beehive' style knob on the front. There is white paint beneath the green, and a dark stain beneath the white. The'eyebrow' piece over the glass adds an unusual and cute touch, and it appears ... moreto be hand carved but it is difficult to say for sure through the paint. The interior has a bottom'shelf' a small shelf above that still intact, then a right and left division above for five smaller shelves that are absent. The space for the smaller shelves have a trim piece on one side and a slot on the other. The cabinet is very solid but it does have and issue with either veneer/laminate or the top layer of the wood lifting and cracking in several places, the lifting primarily on the front which we have tried to show close-ups on. We are not sure what the wood type is. It is also a bit dirty so some cleaning may be desirable. A very cool old antique cabinet! Many of these were given as prizes for school achievements after the Elementary Education Act of 1870. Exceptionally Well Preserved Genuine 19th Century Qing Dynasty Chinese Celadon Green Porcelain Water(Paint Brush) Pot. CLASSIFICATION: Celadon Green Porcelain Water Paint Brush Pot. ATTRIBUTION: Ancient China. Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 82 millimeters(3 ¼+ inches) Breadth: 59 millimeters(2 3/8 inches) Depth: 59 millimeters(2 3/8 inch) CONDITION: Fairly good. However there is paint/ink residue(particularly in the bowl, but slight residue overall as well) and one foot is chipped off(but restored) A little wear consistent with any household item which is 150 or 200 years old. Not flawless, but certainly in an excellent state of preservation. DETAIL: It is a piece wonderfully characteristic ... moreof late Ming/early Qing Dynasty artwork. A green and brown glazed water/paint brush pot in the form of a small seated child hugging a large pot. As you can see if you examine the photos closely, the left foot of the child was broken off(long, long ago) and it was neatly restored by one of our staff. The inside of the pot is stained with very dark paint residue, as is the unglazed underside of the pedestal, the paint residue powdery if rubbed with a finger. There is also light paint residue in the nooks and crevices of the piece, which could be washed off if one preferred. The green glaze was known as“Celadon Green” and it was very famous export-quality porcelain ware from the time of the Song Dynasty through the Ming Dynasty and into the Qing Dynasty, a period of perhaps 700 or 800 years. Excepting for the broken off(and restored) foot, the glaze is entirely intact. The overall condition of the water pot is excepting for the restored foot. Quite nice. A paint brush pot was an almost obligatory accoutrement to any gentleman’s desk in ancient China. For sale a used Squier Strat body in Dakota Red. Has a couple of very light nicks but overall in very good condition. Body is shielded with paint and is grounded as well as bridge grounding wire and hot and ground for jack. Also includes tremolo block and bridge. Tremolo cover has two screws but is missing four. Comes from a Squier Strat that had a squier usa neck on it. Possibly US made between 1989-1990 when a Few Squiers were made in US when the Mexico factory burnt down. Cool Vintage Deco Era Industrial Luro Paint Remover Heats Up Like An Iron I had an opportunity to go down state Illinois recently for the homecoming of my Alma Mater and shopped the wonderful sales. Barn sales and antique shops along the way. I have a huge variety of oldees for you this week- from 19th century primitives to 1950s kitsch- there’s something for everyone! You know that I don't like to plug in old items- but this one was in such amazing condition. I went ahead and plugged in(the curiosity overcame me) It's a vintage- I'm guessing early deco era tool called a Luro Paint Remover. Now, when I plugged it in, it immediately started heating up, just like an iron, and got hot like an iron too. Now, whether or not it removes paint.that's another story, as I did not try, so I do not know- I'm guessing you may know ... morebetter than me, but the tool heats up as it should, that's for sure. The metal end is either iron or steel and it has a very age darkened patina that is accented with light small spots of surface rust. The cloth cord is in excellent condition, actuall, the whole thing is in excellent condition, but I could not find any wear on the cord at all. I did find an original label still stuck to the cord as I'm showing in photo 17- the print is too small and faded for me to read. The wood handle I blieve is oak, and it has an age darkened patina- what the heck- this one looks as good as it heats up! The tool measures 12" long, 2 1/4" wide at the scraping end and weighs 1 lb. The scraping end could use a good cleaning- just general grime, not dried paint. It would make for a great display, addition to a tool collection, or present for a painter friend! This very pretty piece of milkglass is either a calling card dish/tray or a hairpin tray. Or any of many uses. It measures 5 3/4th"s widest x 4 3/4"s tallest and is shallow(just over 1/2" There is darkened original gold paint left around outer edges. Also traces of green paint several places. I find no chips or any other damage to the dish. It is in excellent condition. On the bottom, the number 72 is molded. We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of OLD. Early 20th century, spindle back chairs. The chairs have influences of both French and English Country. The chairs are solid wood with a rich brown stain(original) and black paint on seats and back head rest area. The chairs have a unique back design. They features turned wood spindles which are off set and a center, curved back rest. The legs and stretchers are also turned wood. The seats are curved(fiddle style) and come to a point in the back. The actual seating area is carved and recessed. The chairs are quite striking and make great dining chairs or lovely accent pieces. They are in good condition with some normal and expected evidence of age and use. There are no broken or repaired spindles or legs. The stain has worn in some areas and there is some crazing/bubbling to the old lacquer ... morefinish in a couple of areas. One of the chairs is a little uneven at the bottom. One of the seats has had a split at the joint(on the seat of the chair) It has been filled(previously) and it is very strong with no issues. None of these are distracting and the chairs are lovely and sturdy. The paint as been distressed to look worn. The chairs measure 37.5" tall to the backs and 17.5" in height to the seat. Antique folk art wooden sled pair dog form original paint New England primitive
Up for bids is an incredible pair of old sleds from an old New England estate. They are made of wood with a metal strip on the underside. They are hand painted and the paint is original. Each is inscribed to the recipient. They measure about 26" long and the seat is 12" wide. They are about 8 1/2" tall. They have some wear and dirt as shown. They have been used. For your consideration I am listing a gorgeous old antique solid wood duck decoy. It is a larger decoy measuring 10&1/2" to the top of the head. 15" long and 8" wide at the bottom. It has it's original paint. I don't see a name on it but there is what looks like a lead weight recessed into the wood on the bottom and the weight has some letters on it. Antique Primitive Wooden Butter Churn in Old Green Paint, As-Found, 19th Century
Here's a great-looking. All original antique butter churn up for bids without reserve! Right out of an old barn, it's absolutely untouched and just as we found it. The surface is dry and worn with fabulously weathered green paint. This churn is beautifully aged and nothing has been applied to enhance its appearance. It's made of pine staves and has two iron bands that keep it tight and secure. It has a folksy-looking, fitted cover that kept the cream from splashing out during the churning process. Including the dasher, this churn stands about 41 3/4 inches high, but without the dasher it measures about 21 3/4 inches tall. The top, not including the cover, measures 7 1/2 inches in diameter and widening out to 8 1/2 inches at the bottom. This piece is solid, sturdy and rugged, it's quite a bit heavier than it looks, weighing ... morein at about 10 pounds. As mention, it's as-found so it's still dusty and has a few cobwebs inside from all the decades of storage in the barn. It's truly a great find that hasn't been spoiled by rodents, weather, insects, or amateur restoration. It looks great in its as-found, untouched state and certainly has a rustic, early appearance.
