We have only removed a bit the dust, the blocks will surely benefit from a good and carefull cleaning. There are 60 wooden characters + 4 characters made later with a metal support and a kind of plastic on it. We think. That these blocks are from around 1900. At auction is one vintage metal/wood printers block. This is of an original Presbyterian church with house attached. It measures 4" x 3" and is the standard 7/8" high. It is very detailed and we believe the metal is tin. Not sure. Hand written on back is"Presbyt. From an old time print shop. Not used in many years. You receive the one in the pictures. Vintage / Antique Letterpress Wood Printer's Type 1/2 and 1/4 hand carved blocks
1/2 and 1/4 hand carved blocks. 20 line type. The blocks are approximately 3 5/16" tall and 1 1/2" wide. Printers are a resourceful group. The artist carving these started with a block of wood that was too thin to be able to use on the press. So he had to shim the backs of them to bring them to printing height. Two blocks. Manufacturer is Unknown We have wiped the worst of the dirt off so you could look at the design and for any surface marks. Type is all Wood!
