A reeded square section of the pilaster flanking either side of the two pollard oak drawer fronts with deep mouldings set between two mouldings in this lovely pollard oak shelf. There are inverted baluster form pilasters rising over with decorative ... moregadrooning and reeding an lovely scrolled carved semi-gadrooned cup above with a decorative moulding and matched reeding and a carved frieze rail with centre plate. The buffet is surmounted by a deep moulding and pollard oak veneered top with a matched moulded edge and a raised gallery back with acanthus leaf carved pilasters, a pollard oak centre panel surmounted by a fabulous crest with pollard oak veneers and decorative floral carvings with a centre panel carved with a vacant cartouche of shield form flanked by foliate scrollwork and surmounted by an arched frieze with a decorative carved scrolled shell. The buffet is stamped, on each drawer, Jas Shoolbred& Co. the drawers having solid mahogany linings with hand-cut dovetail joints, numberd"3265" retaining the original handles which have a matched shell motif with a floral heart to the centre and shaped droppers. A tapered and turned column provides support to a circular under-tier which benefits from a pleasing perimeter lip. English Art Deco Mahogany Dumb Waiter or Lazy Susan Glowing Patina ~ Seen on PBS
Description: Here is a GORGEOUS English Mahogany Lazy Susan with a great Art Deco geometric shape to it. I recall seeing one just like this used on a breakfast table in an episode of Poirot with David Suchet. I remember that it held silver breakfast items like a jam pot and toast rack but cannot remember which episode as they made so many. It came out of an estate sale in Hartford from a home with many quality pieces. The Lazy Susan is made of what looks to be two offset octagons with the points of the lower one to make it easy to turn the platter. The geometric design gave it a more modern look for its time which I put somewhere in the 1930s. I think this design made it perfect to use on the set of a TV show that was known for its use of Deco homes. Buildings and accessories. The wood of this item is gorgeous with that patina that only comes ... morewith time. I love the grain of old mahogany as it has that“chatoyance” or“Cats Eye” look from a grain that really pops. The color and patina are as nice on the underside as it is on top. There are no splits or breaks and barely a scratch or ding to be found for a piece of this age as you can tell from my pictures. Please look at all my pictures to judge color and condition for yourself. The base is well made and turns easily on ball bearings The piece measures roughly 15” in diameter when you measure it point to point and it stands about 2” tall Keep Coming back to see what the relicseeker has to offer. Vintage 2-tier Mahogany Butler/Dumb Waiter Table It has 3 legs that are carved and it has claw toe caps. Top tier is round. Bottom tier is scalloped. The table stands approximately 29” tall. The top tier table is 16” in diameter; the bottom tier table is 24” in diameter. The table is pretty sturdy. The table does have some finish damage: It has a glass ring or two on the top tier. Both tiers have an area where something must have spilled on it and it damaged the finish– approximately 3” x 3” areas. The bottom spool looks like it has a split where it was glued together. This is a very retro 1950's style figure of a waitress carrying drinks tray. And showing just a tiny bit of thigh. It is quite large, standing 52cm tall, and is in excellent undamaged condition. This would be a great talking piece, or decorator's piece, and could be used for calling cards etc. There is a maker's label under the base. But I don't know who it is. As you can see in the pictures, the top tier has some minor chipping. There is no splitting or cracks in the wood anywhere that I can see. It has been well cared for by the same family for many years. It has brass claw feet on its three legs.There is a number 35 embossed on the bottom tier that I believe indicates the year of manufacture. Part of the label is missing, but the name Ferguson remains legible as well as the number. It measures 19 1/2" wide at the widest point on the bottom tier and measures 31" high. Up for bid is a vintage pair of dumb waiter rope catch handles. And a round rope stop/guider. I don't know exactly what these interesting old cast iron hardware things did, but they did come out of an old dumb waiter set up in an ancient building in Brooklyn, NYC. I believe they would be set when you had the dumb waiter at the floor you wanted it to stop at, you would move the handle and it would stay till you walked up or down the stairs to the floor you sent it to. They measure about 2 1/4 inches by 3. And the handle itself is about 3 1/2 inches long. They are in good shape considering their 100+ year old age! They are quite rare. And a wonderful step back in time!

Circa 1780 and inlaid with beautiful floral marquetry decorations throughout. The dished moulded tiers are supported on baluster and ring turned columns. The table is raised on a tripod base with three cabriole legs with the original inset castors. It is a very decorative piece which would looks amazing in any period interior. Circa 1890 Solid mahogany Rustic charm See description for full condition report Sturdy and strong, This English mahogany three tier server was made during the Victorian period around 1890. Also known as a dumb waiter or etagere this piece would traditionally have gone in a dining room and meals would have been served from it. Today we use them in a variety of places like the kitchen. Foyers, and again the dining room. The four columns are beautifully turned and the mahogany has developed a lovely patina over the years. The ... morefinish has a very rustic charm to it, making it a perfect kitchen or dining room piece. The server is in good condition. It does have marks acquired over its more than 120 years of life including small dings and dents on all surfaces and columns. We have tried to capture a sampling of this in the pictures. The tiny“buttons” on the top of the front two columns have minor chips. The top shelf has small(about 2″ diameter) indent in the wood which may be a natural part of the wood. All three shelves have minor age separations(one each) which is normal for solid wood pieces and do not affect the integrity of the shelves. All of these issues are minor and serve to add character and charm to the piece rather than detract from it. The casters still roll easily. The distance between the bottom and second shelf is 13.75″ and between the second and top shelves is 14″ Very nice dumb waiters like this are hard to find. So don’t miss your chance to own one today! A fully finished back. The brass casters still work nicely. The minor age separations are normal for solid wood and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this buffet is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this buffet chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a buffet with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this buffet is just right and the buffet benefits from having a good balance.
