Normal 0 Up for auction is this excellent v intage/antique American Optical Lensometer Model 603-B. Serial# Q13680. This is fine historical example of medical/optical equipment in good working order. I don’t know just how old this is but I have been lead to believe that it could date back the the 1930s. Black and chrome finish Stands about 15" tall. 15" wide, and 7” deep(as pictured) The base measures 8.5" x 7.25 Weight- 31 pounds Model: M603B Serial Number: Q13680 Made in the USA by American Optical Company 115 V- 10W This piece of equipment appears to work as it should. This is an American Optical Catalog Number 416 microscope eyepiece micrometer disc(also called an eyepiece reticle. Or measuring disc) engraved with the Whipple pattern. The sale includes the Whipple micrometer disc plus a retaining spring for secure insertion into the microscope eyepiece. Also included is the original protective case. This is a quality optical glass reticle manufactured by AO. American Optical. The catalog number is Cat. 416. Glass is clean and clear. And the edge of the reticle disc is beveled, indicative of the quality American Optical Company engineering. The engraved design originated with M. Whipple of the Harvard University Engineering School of Sanitary Chemistry. Diameter of the disc is 21mm. Vintage phoroptor, phorometer, eye test machine, American Optical CO.
I have been told that these might be from the late 1800's early 1900's but I do not know. Also I do not know if they are in working conditions or not. The 2 front lenses that sit on the nose are missing I believe, unless they are designed to be open so they fit against your eyes. It definitely got some dust on it, I have never cleaned them, afraid to get them damaged or something. All the mechanisms work and move freely. I took as many pictures as I could, even of the serial numbers that appear on it. Thanks for looking and good luck
