50ft Vintage 1921-1942 Dartmouth Keuffel& Esser Tape Measure Leather Covered Case Great condition for its age. Some significant wear on the first inch of the tape only. SEE PHOTOS. I pulled out the entire 50 feet which looked like they hadn't see the light of day in decades; that is to say they looked new. Dartmouth Metallic Woven Tape measure. 7442T, made by Keuffel& Esser Co. New York, no date, circa 1920-1940. Embossed leather covered metal case, 3-1/8” diameter x 7/8” thick, with nickel plated folding crank handle; 25 foot long x 5/8” wide white woven tape with black graduations, feet, inches and half inches; ring end in measurements. Reverse of tape end has circa 5” long leather reinforcement sewn ending at circa 6-3/4” mark; only 1-3/4” of original reinforcement remains on this object. Product line and manufacturer’s name ... moreappear in embossed lettering on both sides. Tape length is marked marked on crank handle. Model number does not appear on object. While the Dartmouth line precedes the 36th edition catalog of 1921. A tape in this line with 1/2” markings was first offered in that catalog and through the 38th edition in the leather case. Interim war edition, 39th, was issued in 1943. K& E had their main office and factories in Hoboken when this item was made.

Measured from the center of the plastic wheel to the end of the rod where it mounts( bolts on) The K& E paragon is made in the USA and has a 218268 stamped on stainless steel rule extension.This was used in a village office. I don't know anything about these or how to use them, the crank pulls the carrige back with a cable, the little lever on top locks the dial in place, the flat lever on the carrige I can't find what it does in other words it does not seem to do anything, but then again I have no clue how to use this.

The case is in good working condition, opens and closes perfectly. There are normal surface scratches, no cracks in the glass and some restoration cleaning is needed. Appears to be working fine, although I am not familiar with compass reading and cannot contest to it's accuracy. It has 8 drawers and is in good condition for it's age but it smells like machinist shop inside the chest. The slant front has two small parts of KEUFFEL& ESSER CO. and the key lock part of the AGLELOCK TERRYVILLE CONN. USA but the key is missing. The slant front is in two pieces, but all parts are intact, with 4 brass screws are including. The chest has 8 solid brass corners, 4 on top and 4 on bottom. The handle is in poor condition. Keuffel & Esser Engineers Tape
Here is an amazing K&E Skeleton frame reel tape. The first showing of this tape was in 1892 as a model 7641. It was offered in the 1892 as described in( photo 11) as 300' and up. In the 1900 catalog this tape appears as the model 7650E and offered from 300' to 1000' The last year this tape shows is in the 1915 catalog as the 7650E and was offered from 300'to 500' It has its original 1/8" wide band. I believe this is a 500' tape but I have never opened it completely so it could be 1000' If so it will help date it earlier because from 1900 to 1909 this tape was offered 300' to 1000' and 1909 to 1915 from 300' to 500' See photo's for details and description for the use of this tape. Pair Antique Slide Rules W/ Cases F Post 1462 & Keuffel Esser 4088-3 Sliderules
This auction is for a pair of vintage sliderules made by two different manufacturers. The first is a Keuffel Esser model 4088-3 and it comes with it's original carrying case. The rule is marked with two patent dates. 6/5/1900 and 12/22/1908. The rule is in excellent shape with no real issues and free from any damage or dirt/grime. The carrying case is in good shape with the cover attached. It is marked with the original owner's name who attended Beckley College, although I couldn't find any info on a college by that name.possibly changed it's name or part of a larger system? The second sliderule is made by Fredrick Post and it is a model 1462. This rule also comes with it's original carrying case and appears to have a name faintly visible inside the top flap, which is still attached. Here is a K&E transit with its original wood case and tripod. As you can see from the photos the box has a lot of wear but it is in solid condition. There are brass corners and the case is dovetailed. We do not have the key. Handle is broken. The transit seems to move smoothly and looks to be in good condition. We have no idea how to test it so exact working condition is unknown. There is some wear and rust, lens looks fine. The number on the box matches the number on the case. There is fluid in the level and that also is fine. As is as found, see photos, and if you want us to check anything let us know. Measures a bit over 11" tall not including the tripod. Vintage 1900 Keuffel & Esser 4092-3 Slide Rule Belonged To William R Bascom
Very old slide rule by Keuffel& Esser. Patented June 5. 1900, December 22, 1908, and April 1, 1924. Good condition with normal wear for its age. This slide rule belonged to William R Bascom. His biography is below. Please see pics ask any questions you may have. Bid! Thank you! William R. Bascom(1912–1981) was an American folklorist. Anthropologist, and museum director. Bascom completed his B.A. at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. And earned his Ph.D. in anthropology at Northwestern University under Melville J. Herskovits in 1939. He taught at Northwestern, Cambridge University, and the University of California at Berkeley, where he was also Director of the Lowie Museum of Anthropology. During World War II, he joined the O.S.S. and together with Ralph Bunche co-authored an unsigned volume, A Pocket Guide to West Africa in 1943. Bascom ... morewas a specialist in the art and culture of West Africa and the African Diaspora. Especially the Yoruba of Nigeria.
