Circa 1830s/1840s Mahogany Secretary Abbatant- Excellent Condition. This particular Secretary Abbatant belonged to Governor William J. Northen and was used in the executive mansion while he served as Governor of Georgia from 1890- 1894. Comes with a skeleton key and working lock. A 1950 will and codicil from Northen's grandson. George Northen, accompanies the desk to serve as proof of its former owner. The codicil in George's handwriting specifically states"I bequeth my Grandfather's mahogany desk pull down front, used in the executive's residence[Governor's mansion] during his administration until his death. Also included in this auction is a 1938 copy of George's tax return and a 1937 list of personal property of Ruth Northen(George's older sister) which lists the desk. Also. This is a solid wood desk with a glossy cherry finish. It is in good condition but is missing one knob on the bottom cabinet(see pic) It can easily be replaced as it is a fairly ordinary shape and finish. The desk top folds up and down and can be used as a work surface. It as 2 leather panels on the inside of the folding lid(see pic) that are in excellent condition.
