This is a vintage leather portfolio style briefcase. I'm guessing from the 1930's or earlier from the Standard Oil Company. As you can see in the photos. It is imprinted in gold on the inside flap"Property of Standard Oil Company.style No. 1.SP-881" The craftsmanship that went into the making of this bag is exceptional and has not been done to these standards in many years. I cannot find another one like this no matter how hard I search. I don't know if it is a salesman's bag or if it belonged to a Standard Oil Company executive. But I strongly suspect the latter due to the high end uniqueness of this old briefcase. Condition is very good. There are a couple of tears on the handles. Having been used only to store artwork. It has two padded handles and a heavy duty brass zipper. The outside has a highly embossed leather-grain scuff-proof finish. The interior is fully lined with a large pocket on each side. I do not know the date of manufacture. I purchased it used, from an art gallery several years ago.
