This is a near-mint condition first-generation Eames/Zenith/Herman Miller fiberglass shell armchair that has spent the last 48 years as a rarely-used desk chair in my parent's suburban home in the Midwest not far from the Cranbrook Academy where Charles and Ray Eames met and not too far from the Herman Miller headquarters. It came with the house. Bought in 1966, and I've always assumed the previous home-owners were the chair's original circa-1950 purchasers. It has all the required first generation features(see photos) full perimeter"rope-edge. the checkerboard label referencing Charles Eames, Herman Miller, and the Zenith Plastics Co. the striking fiber swirls of the fiberglass, the large"hockey puck" shockmounts, the zinc-plated metal X-design base, and the"dome of silence" dampers on the steel casters. ... moreThe color of the non-faded area by the rope-edge matches the R/O(Red/Orange) shell color option, one of the six original colors in the Herman Miller catalog, and the beautiful pattern of the natural color weathering/fading is typical of the early shell chairs. Herman Miller George Nelson Desk Mid Century Modern AUTHENTIC
This is a classic desk manufacture by Herman Miller and designed by George Nelson. The desk has the Herman Miller tag inside the top drawer. The Herman Miller tag on the bottom has been worn away but you can still see where it was. It is stamped March 1970 inside the drawer. 29 inches high 29.5 inches deep 71 inches wide I have taken multiple pictures to show the condition. Wear is most noticeable at the edges. That is normal. The desk is Walnut for the base and Formica like for the desk top. If I was going to keep the desk myself I would get some PSA Veneer and redo the top and edges. It is very easy to do and anyone that does wood working could do it for a couple hundred bucks. I will leave that up to you. Lot 3 Vintage Herman Miller Eames Shell Chairs Scoops Buckets Zeeland 1957
Three Herman Miller Eames fiberglass shells. Scoops. One is the Parchment color, one is Parchment but is more beigey in color, and one is I think the Greige color and has a thicker, coarser type fiberglass. The two Parchment chairs have the paper tags(see pics) and one is stamped"Sep 10 1957" The paper tags say the two Parchment are made by Herman Miller Furniture Company in Zeeland, Michigan. There is no markings or stamps or or anything on the Greige chair. The color is evenly faded on the Greige chair and it's much more gray looking on the underside than it is on the top side. The one Parchment chair has some light staining like there was a puddle in the seat area(see pic) and a small defect or slight damage to the fiberglass at the top, one distinguishing thing about this chair is four"flat" spots about an inch ... moreaway from the rubber leg mounting pads, on the underside only. This might help identify the chair, I don't know, I'm guess that it's for a different type of mounting pattern for legs, the other one is in very good condition but has a light blue paint or ink pen spot at the top edge(see pics) which might come out with the right cleaning, but I'm not sure. The cleaner"white" chair has more rust on the screw mounts and some damage to the rubber pads(although they seem very functional, the metal is showing through the rubber. while the other two chairs have very clean and great condition mounting pads. The spacing on the mounting pads is 7 3/8" across on the front(screw hole to screw hole centers) and 4 3/4" across the back ones, and 7" from front to back ones. So, just to sum up, one parchment chair: great condition but one small blue stain at top edge, rusty mounts. Other parchment chair: ring stain on seat, small defect at top edge, good mounts. Greige chair; great condition, faded color. good mounts.

Authentic Herman Miller Eames Aluminum Group super low lounge Shell Chair Base
Up for grabs is a Herman Miller aluminum group low lounge chair base for shell chairs. This is a very low height versions. I had it on my zenith armshell before i put the original solid rod x-base back on it. It is in overall excellent vintage condition. Some wear to the bottom of the original plastic feet. it still has a nice shine to it but there is some tarnishing. This base came out of a local college. The height of this base is very low and and has a wider stance than the standard height. I have only seen 2 other bases with the same height. NOTE: When i acquired this base. One of the back tabs on the spider mount had broken off. Instead of having it TIG welded back on, i cannibalized another aluminum group desk base for the spider mount. The difference is that the desk base has a thinner steel rod(1/2in) so a 1in steel sleeve was milled ... moreon a metal lathe and friction fitted on the the 1/2in rod. It is very strong and not noticeable at all. Built in LA, California during the 1950's(parents of Herb Ritts the photographer) the Ritts lounge is constructed from steel rod and solid rattan. This chair not only looks the part, but is quite comfortable thanks to a real spring seat bottom. It has been a handsome and useful piece sitting aside my Paul McCobb bedroom suite. The table features solid wood-block construction(new LTRs use plywood) The zinc base is superb—no bends or breaks but some natural oxidation/discoloration here and there. Great patina. This is the narrower base. Base has original shock mounts and original screws, which I have not tightened back down for fear of stripping or cross threading. In GREAT condition. Will need to be repainted due to surface rusting and a paint splotch. No broken welds& no pieces broken. There is a bit of glue left on shock mounts and it looks like one of the rods on one leg has a very slight bow. please see pic. which can be easily remedied. Weight is 3 1/2 lbs. Height is 17 inches.
