It plays well and the pads feel good under the fingers. The tone is classic Mark VI. And the horn has a nice overall sound with an even scale. The lacquer is about 85% and the neck has been pulled down and repaired. It's a nice original lacquer VI for a good price. If you've been wanting to get a good playing, original lacquer VI, but you wanted to stay under $5k, this would be a very good option for you. Shipping: I will pack the horn carefully. Up for auction is a rare vintage York tenor saxophone. Serial#884 in a King wooden case with a basic Woodwind brand mouthpiece. It has a brand new repad with Selmer style pads. It has been completely disassembled. Cleaned and all pads, corks and felts replaced by a NAPBIRT certified repair tech with over 30 years experience. This saxophone is in great condition and has never been abused. There are no major dents or signs of there ever having been any major damage. The lacquer is in my estimation well over 90% intact. The metal of the body and keywork is very solid and substantial. BUFFET CRAMPON TENOR SAX Paris Super Dynaction SDA saxophone (not Mark VI)
This is an early 70s Buffet Crampon Super Dynaction tenor. The saxophone is in good shape with a few flaws. Most notably is the Eb key guard which has been resoldered. Beyond that there are small scratches and ding here and there. However the original laqueur is easily over 90% intact and has a beautiful dark color. See pictures for further details. In terms of playing condition this instrument does play throughout. However in some registers the saxophone feels a little stuffy. Pads are a combination of half new and half old. The winning bidder should expect to make minor adjustments to this horn before it is playing up to it's full potential. That being says it is playable as is. I took this Super 20 to a professional saxophonist here in Atlanta and had him play and check it out. He was very excited to see the instrument and as he played it. It sounded warm and loud. He told me that it is leaking a bit below"low C" and would need to be re-padded, as the ones currently on the sax are quite old. I asked him specifically to check out the neck and mouthpiece and there is no leaking there and the neck has not become elliptical. It is again, in the hands of a great horn player a wonderful sounding sax and from what I understand, somewhat desirable in the saxophone community. Condition: With the horn being 53 years old. It naturally has accumulated some wear on the bell, some scratches and small dings. 1918 or so Frank Holton Tenor Saxophone. This was their top model and the finish is a gold finish- not sure if it's gold plated or something else. The photos tell the story about this mouthpiece. Other then the scratches on the beak and the typical discoloration. All the really important parts of this piece are in great condition. The tip, table, rails, baffle, and chamber are all in perfect condition. It's a great playing mouthpiece! Super mellow sound with nice projection. It has a bright tone quality but without any shrillness or edginess. These older vintage hard rubber mouthpieces were made with much higher quality hard rubber/ebonite than today's modern pieces. The 5S is a slightly closed tip opening with a medium small chamber. So it's not a super powerful player, but it can still reach a nice loud volume. It's more of a smooth control piece for combo work. I've been playing a Rico Jazz Select 4 medium with it, and it's a very free blowing set up. This is a very nice Buescher Aristocrat Series IV Tenor Saxophone. Serial number 385441. The horn has been refurbished with all pads replaced by a professional. However it has not been re-l acquered. See photo#8 for close up of pads. The horn has an amazing sound and you could enhance your preferences with a different mouthpiece. Mouth piece is a Precision which comes with the auction. Along with two very old, unused reeds. The mouthpiece band/ligature is missing a screw(see photo#12) There is normal wear for a used saxophone of this age. It needs a little TLC- it has dings and small dents, finis and lacquer wear and one of the key guards is broken. I do not know anything about the brand or maker but the thing that piqued my curiosity was the octave mechanism and some of the key linkages. I think will a bit of work you will have a neat old sax. 1970 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone Beautiful Silver Plate No Reserve!
For Your Consideration: 1 1970 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone in Beautiful Silver Plate. This horn is simply stunning and was very hard to take pics of because it just shinned too brightly! The original silver plating is about 95 percent intact with only wear on a couple of keys and a key touch or two. I am pretty sure the bell is gold washed too. The serial number indicates it was made in 1970. There are some signs of light dent work. Some work was done just below the bottom thumb hook and to the player's left. Maybe some on the bow? I see some micro dings too. But nothing to worry about. Silver shows every little bump. The pads and corks are new and the horn plays well. I suggest a set up being done to optimize its play condition at your local shop, but it won't need pads for a very long time. This model is renamed every few years and the current equivalent model is the YTS-475. Unlike many current yamaha models which were made somewhere in southeast asia. This instrument was made in Japan, so you can be assured of its high quality. In terms of playability, this instrument is a fantastic horn for an advanced intermediate player. The quality and tone of this horn is deep and powerful. This instrument will easily last someone through the college level. Yamaha Saxophones are known for their quality and consistency. I am selling a Saxscape Slant.102#1632 Tenor Sax mouthpiece. I bought this piece here on Ebay from Ken Barry at Saxscape. It is a really nice piece and has a very big dynamic range. Plays beautifully at a soft volume. But definitely has a HUGE sound when pushed. Feels somewhat like a old link.and has a bigger and warmer sound than the florida links I have own. The beak is wider than my link and I think that it contributes to the sound. I gigged with it(with a rubber piece for teeth protection) for about a week. It is in the EXACT same condition that I got it.which was brand new. As a prototype piece it is a great deal. You're looking at a very nice pre-owned SELMER Tenor Saxophone. It is model 1244. The matt finish on the horn(not shinny) was put on by the factor and gives the horn a old look to it. The horn has a some slight cosmetic issues on the finish such a few scratches and dings. And there is a brace that is missing on the neck that has no affect on the strength or the playing of the horn. The horn plays well and has a great smooth tenor tone.
