Vintage Nova-Tech Air-O-Ear Aircraft Vacuum Tube Receiver
Up for bid is a wonderful Nova-Tech Air-O-Ear Aircraft Receiver"3 Bander" vintage vacuum tube radio. It receives LF. AM and VHF frequencies. Curiously, the band switch actually has five positions, even though it is only marked for three. The two additional bands are shortwave and the radio receives beautifully on these"bonus" bands with a simple wire antenna hooked to the antenna terminal on the back of the radio. The AM and VHF bands receive very well. On VHF. I am able to listen to air traffic control and aircraft from Atlanta-Hartsfield International airport. I live approximately 20 miles from the airport. I have not received any stations on the LF band, but my Internet research indicates this band is no longer in regular use. While tuning across the LF band, I only receive varying degrees of static, so at least the ... moreband is not"dead" Cosmetically. The radio is superb. There are a few very minor superficial scratches with no cracks whatsoever. The case is plastic with a mottled appearance in some places similar to Bakelite. The dial is near perfect with a smoothe-functioning pointer and a working dial light. The line cord is original, very clean, very pliable and crack-free. As best as I can tell. The radio is original and unrestored. The interior of the radio is just as nice and clean as the outside. All electronics appear to be original and unmolested. However, I can't be sure if the vacuum tubes are original, or not. I will ship the radio double-boxed via UPS Ground to the 48 contiguous states only. This is a vintage Pioneer SX-1000TW AM/FM Stereo Receiver in excellent working condition. The faceplate and tuner dial glass are in excellent cosmetic condition with no scratches and all lettering intact. The wood case is in good cosmetic condition except for a few minor chips and scratches in the veneer as seen in pictures. The receiver was professionally cleaned and serviced and brought up to Pioneer manufacturer specs. All functions work correctly and the receiver sounds fantastic. B oth channels are strong and clear with no scratchy controls; rated at 50 watts per channel. This model is one of the Pioneer's early 1970's solid-state receivers and it has a very tube-like sound with excellent tone. I much prefer the earlier Pioneer designs over their later monster receivers which sound too harsh with no tone.
