A DC potential difference in the microVolt range was created by taking 3V from a bench power supply. Dropping most of it across a 39Mohm resistor and the rest across a 12ohm resistor. The terminals of the galvanometer were connected across the 12ohm resistor and deflection of the light beam was observed. The connections were reversed and the light beam was observed to deflect in the opposite direction. No attempt was made to measure accuracy or calibration and. As with any vintage instrument, these are not guaranteed. It is in excellent vintage condition. Tested to operate, zero and deflect when a voltage is present. Input terminals have been shorted at all times during storage and transportation, to protect the armature. May have scuffs, scratches or dings- see pictures for cosmetic condition. Measures approximately 32 cm x 18 cm x 10 cm tall excluding the height of the knobs and dials. The voltage dial has a small brownish stain at one place on the dial.

Measures from 0 to.010 ohms in.001 ohms steps, and each of those.001 ohms steps is variable by the vernier from 0 to 110, so looks like you can get to an accuracy of.00001 ohms. I have tested with my inexpensive digital ohmmeter and this standard works fine BUT I have no way to check calibration as I don’t have the sensitive instrumentation required. The reflecting galvanometer is a sensitive instrument for measuring current. The unit measures about 6 1/2" x 7" x 4 1/2" high including the knobs on the top. I am not sure what material the top is made of, perhaps composite or Bakelite. The top is mounted on a walnut finished wood base. There are 4 graduated knobs labeled 1, 10, 100& 1000 and 2 screw connectors on the top. Under the Leeds& Northrup name there is a number, 217489. The serial number plate on the front does not have a number on it. Also included is a grey painted wooden box which was specifically made to hold and store this instrument.
