Inv no 4845) It combines an anvil and hammer. According to an Atkins catalog. By use of the Criterion set, with a light hammer, giving it a light blow, an inexperienced person can set each tooth in a saw to an exact gauge, imparting an absolutely uniform set to each tooth, and preventing more set than is desired. c1900 Souv. PAPERWEIGHT - LOG SLED, Lumber Industry !
This is an unusual souvenir paperweight of a logging sled. Circa 1900. It consists of a glass block 4 inches long, with an illustration of a logging sled showing up from the bottom. The image looks like an engraving taken from a photograph. The sled is being pulled through a forest by two horses. The stack of logs is unbelievably huge and has a man standing near the top. A legend indicates that it is 18 feet long. 15 feet wide, and 30 feet high. There is no location indicated, which is a shame, but this was probably a souvenir from some logging community in the western U.S. Based on the style of paperweight, I have no qualms about dating this to the 1890-1910 period.
