The Wright 12 - Antique Cast Iron Butcher General Store Paper Cutter With Dowel
You're bidding on"The Wright 12" An antique mercantile paper cutter for 12" rolls that would have been used in a butcher shop or general store environment. Wright was a branding used by the Cutter Manufacturing Company, which operated in Everett, MA from roughly the turn of the 20th century until the Great Depression. I'm estimating this piece to date circa 1900-1920. It has a rusty patina with some of the original silver paint showing through, which gives it a nice primitive look, with a stained wood top roughed up from age and use, and tacked down to an old plank board. Best of all, it has what appears to be its original dowel mechanism, a fixed round wooden bar with spools at either end that can go into the ends of a paper roll, or paper can be rolled around them, for fast and smooth rolling action. Rare to find ... morethese with the dowel. The Wright 12" is cast into the back side of the cutting blade, with"Made in USA" cast into either side. Total dimensions of this piece are 16" X 4" and 11 1/4" tall, or 16" X 8" and 12" tall if you opt to leave it attached to the plank. Great functional piece for lovers of the primitive or collectors of general store or mercantile pieces- please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal. A vintage roll paper cutter. The spool measures 15 1/2" excluding pins, height of approx. 12" feet are 7" wide with a hole spread of 6" Wood and metal. All metal parts are metallic and it is losing black paint and has rust in some areas. The wood has a shellac/varnish which is uneven and is coming off. There have been some additional holes added to the top of the cutter. It is secure, one leg wobbles slightly and needs tightened. Decorative cast feet, all moving parts work fine. No odors, I did not clean or polish this piece. Thank you.

Antique General Store/Butcher Shop rolled paper holder/cutter for ten inch paper. To restore this paper dispenser it should be disassembled. Bead blasted, primed, and given two coats of a period correct satin black enamel finish, and then the rolled paper holder/cutter mounted to a nice red oak base, given a rich reddish/brown hand rubbed wood oil finish. An appropriate sized dowel should also be attached to the right hand side of the base(to the right of the cutter) over which a cone of store wrapping string is placed. This would make a great addition to any general store, antique shop, or country kitchen. Patina of rust is on this item at present. Antique Simplex 10 Gummed Paper Tape Dispenser, Meat Packing, Butcher, Works!!!!
Up for bid is a Patented Simplex 10 Paper Tape Dispenser. This is a beautiful. Old, heavy metal paper tape dispenser that you would find in butcher shops, on sales counters or anywhere you needed to have access to packing tape. It measures 14 inches long, 3.5 inches wide and 7 inches high. It is marked: Simplex 10, Better Packages Inc. Patent nos. 18321 and 18322; Shelton Conn. It has directions for use in the lid, and says sharp blade cuts, and uses up to 1.5 inch-paper tape. The only thing I see missing is the brush that moistens the tape. I have found a website that has a parts list and exploded drawing of this item, but it says most parts are discontinued. I think you could use a 1 1/2" paintbrush cut to fit for this replacement. Circa 1920 Theipiqua Brand General Store Cast Iron 28" Wide Butcher Paper Cutter
This was used at a local country grocery store in Kentucky when I was a child(I am now 66 and it had been used many years when I was a kid) I remember the store owner going to the cooler and taking out a slab of bacon. Cutting off how much my mom wanted to purchase then the owner pulling out a piece of paper, tearing it off, wrapping the meat and tying it with string. The store has long since closed, but I purchased it and have used it in my kitchen as a paper towel holder. It can also be used as a wrapping paper holder. I am selling this because I have moved to a smaller home and cannot use it any more. Made of cast iron and it can be bolted to the counter as it has two screw holes on each end. See photo 6.
