H. Disston & Sons antique/vintage 26" hand saw only no handle has button
Hi. Here is an estate sale find. It is a H. Disston& Sons saw. It is the metal saw only-NO handle! Saw is about 26" long and is rusty but not eating through the metal except for a small place on edge by medallion. There is a 1" in diameter medallion. Please look at the photos as they add to the description. Due to aging the metal is rough. At the narrow end is a little nub that sticks out as you can see in the photo. Someone told me that was used to mark the wood to be sawed to make a groove to start the blade. I did a little research for this brand of saw and by it's design it is dated from 1878-1888. STANLEY MITER BOX- PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE PHOTOS- Antique cast iron miter box in fair to good used condition. Base is approximately 14 1/2 inches wide and 7 inches deep. Marked on the front side: STANLEY No. 150. Marked on the rear: MADE IN U.S.A. Base has positive angle stops at 0. 22 1/2, 30, and 45 degrees, both ways. Saw holding assembly adjusts up& down, which might minimize cutting into the wooden base board. I believe this model did not come with a miter saw. But I am including a Disston back saw that should work fine for small work. A little small for a miter saw, cutting edge is 14 inches long and plate is 3 1/8 inches tall. No visible etch on the blade. The spine is stamped: HENRY DISSTON& SONS- PHILADA. U.S.A. CAST STEEL- WARRANTED. Saw is straight. A little dirty, teeth will soon need sharpening, back side has spots ... moreof heavy staining with some shallow pitting. Miter box is in good working condition. Overall. Fairly clean. It is missing the slotted length gauge stop that was designed for repetitive cuts, but the screw and wingnut are still present. The little wooden blade-stop spool on the back has been cut through and is missing a chunk of wood. Also the wooden base plate has a piece of wood missing from the left front edge. Looks like the previous owner only made 90 and 45 degree cuts. Those cuts went nearly all the way through the wooden base. Black paint is in good condition and mostly intact. A few minor scuffs and chips. With most chips occurring on the paint on the top of the saw holder arm. Exposed bare metal surfaces. Screw heads, thumbscrews are all a little rusted- nothing too severe(see photos below) Everything moves freely. Ready to use! Offered without reserve is a vintage hand saw made by Disston. The saw has an emblem with Disston USA and the Keystone insignia set into the handle so I suspect that it would date back into the 1940's or 50's era. This saw has a laminate handle that looks to me like Apple or Maple. A saw collector site online states" The 1947 catalog lists the D-15 saw with a laminate handle" so I suspect this may be a D-15 or D-115 model The side of the saw has some writing but I can not decipher what it says. The saw's blade has some light tarnish that I am sure would clean with a little bit of effort. The cutting surface of the blade is 25 3/4" long and it looks perfectly straight, overall the saw is about 29" long. This auction is for vintage cross cut woodworking hand saw- I think this was made by Disston- it is marked(The Clipper Refined) Cast Steel Warranted- looks to be 8 tpi- marked 8 on the back end of the blade. The saw is 30" long. All 4 brass rivets are in place. handle button is present- wood handle is complete- some slight cosmetic wear and it has EB stamped in a few places. Some staining on the blade(looks to be a few spots of light surface pit- I did not attempt to clean this up at all- dried oil residue as well. All teeth are present.Thank you. Vintage Disston D-95 with Disstonite Handle and good logo
This old Disston saw is apparently from the late 40’s or early 50’s. It is a D-95 which I believe is called the Masterpiece model. It has a straight blade with a slight curve over the length of the blade. The blade is a bit shy of 26 inches. It has a red plastic handle that Disston called Disstonite. I believe. As can be seen from the pictures, it is a great candidate for restoration with light rust and paint on the handle. The handle looks mostly red but I believe it would have been called brown and orange. A previous owner has engraved his name“Loren” and his social security number on the handle. The handle is solid but shows some scuffs and age crinkling. It is 10 point. I have several tools on eBay this week. Check out my other auctions. 2 good old hand saws. Sharp! handles are good, one is missing a name button but that don't effect how it works! The Disston measures 26" just blade with handle it's 29" long x 6 1/4" at the widest part of the blade to 2 1/8 at the end. The one without the name measures, 25 1/2" long without handle, about 29" with 6" wide at the widest, 1 3/4" wide at the end. both are 8 TPI, good working saws. Vintage Disston Saw 24 inch D-8 Thumb Hole Crosscut Pre 1928
Vintage Disston 24' Crosscut Saw. Up for auction is my vintage hand saw. Disston 24' Phila medallion. 5 ppi. Lovely visible etching which is almost complete. Could be further enhanced with gun blue if desired. The'D' surrounding the 8 has faded and there is tarnish over the etching to the right. No major defects. Small chip to the very top of the saw handle. In the handle the former owners name can be seen. It is stamped in 4 places all of which are similar if not the same in their makeup. They are very subtle/small and add further interest. The saw has been cleaned but not overly so& then waxed. The knocks& scrapes have been retained& not buffed out. Not only does the 24' Disston look good it cuts easily. I am not a chippy but my friend is and he is happy with it's ability. The saw blade is straight. Cosmetic ... morecondition is as you can see in the photographs. There is tarnish& chips as one would expect from a saw of this age. In the heel of the blade is the number 4 and under the handle is a capital'A' The'A' may denote a process within the saws original construction but I am not sure. The saw is in used/vintage condition. Using an online resource from Erik von Sneidern. January 1, 2012 the etch corresponds to this from his website: In the early 1910's the letters M. DE F. and M. IND RGTRADA were added to all the etches. They are abbreviated French and Spanish phrases for Trademark purposes. It is well worth visiting his website as it a great source of information. Up for auction is a very nice set of Disston D-1-S Wood Turning Chisels in original fancy display box. Circa 1940 I date them as around 1940 because there was a christmas tag in the box indicating it was from my Mom and sister to Dad. But didn't mention my brother. My sister was born in 1938 and my brother in 1940, so somewhere in here was when they were purchased. I doubt they were ever used. I have the feeling Mom saw this nice set of tools and bought them for Dad. Not realizing that they were for use with a lathe. To my knowledge Dad never used a lathe. 4 vintage cross cut woodworking hand saw saws Disston & Sons early label
This auction is for 4 vintage cross cut woodworking hand saw saws(3) are marked Disston- one has an early label- The one with the carved handle design has a marking on the blade- I just can't make out all of the words. The one with the three buttons- I can't see the markings on the blade. There is one with what I think is an early mark on the blade- it is marked Patent Ground. Some staining on the blades(looks to be a few spots of light surface pit- I did not attempt to clean this up at all- dried oil residue as well) All teeth are present. Each measures around 29" long- handle to tip and around 6" wide at it's widest end. 2 of the handles are nicely sculpted& detailed and all 3 sport the*H Disston& Sons* Philada* Logo. The short end has a handle peg on top of the blade that measures: 5.5" inches tall. The wide end has regular saw handle that measures: 5.25" Tall/Wide x 8" Long. The main heel handle must have been repaired many years ago and still remains very sturdy. There's a hole for a"top peg handle" at the heel end. As well, but we never were given the third(spare? handle. There is a brass colored medallion on one side of the handle that sports the company logo& name. It reads: H DISSTON& SONS* PHILADA* It's in a round circular pattern with the woodworking/scale type logo in the center. We believe it's a fairly old and has"Champion Tooth" saw-teeth. I just don't know enough about these types of things. You can be the judge? I've been told by my good friend and antique mentor. that the medallion& logo on the handle dates this saw to between 1896-1917. It has a very differant tooth pattern that I have not come across before anywhere. even on eBay. It would also be perfect for painting a gorgeous scene

Lot of three. Vintage, used, old, Disston Philadelphia, Warranted Superior, unbranded, large, cutting saws. These items show overall wear including scratches. Scuff marks, discoloration, staining, surface rust found to the blades, some bends found to the teeth of the saws, splits found to the handles in areas, and one of the handles is currently being held together with electrical tape. The saw with the electrical tape on the handle is unbranded. The darker handled saw has a button that reads, Disston Phila” and the other saw is marked, Warranted Superior” The unbranded saw measures approximately 47.75” long.
