1960's Gibson GA-75L Recording Amp with 15" speaker. From what I've read there were only 75 of the 15" models made. They also made a 2x10" GA-75 but there were about twice as many of those. Amp powers up. Plays well and is in nice condition for it's age and rarity. 3 of the knobs are not original and looks like a speaker out was added to make this even more versatile. Power switch is a 4 way rotary with what I believe is: Off/Standby/On/Polarity Ground. Power switch split shaft pot has half of the shaft split so the screw set chicken head knob is used to screw onto the remaining half shaft. I believe these originally had a 15" JBL speaker but this amp comes with a Peavey Blue Marvel 15" speaker which was in the amp when I acquired it. This is the amp that the legendary English bands from the sixties and seventies used. From the Stones. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplein, Who, Kinks, Cream, Animals, Bowie ... moreto American bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Santana, Bob Dylan the list is endless. Even Jimi Hendrix used a WEM PA when he was in Europe. This is the amp that was used on the recordings of those iconic songs. This is a 15 watt amp that has the tone that just keeps on sounding better the more you turn it up. This amp is an early 1963 edition. Very basic amp with 2 channels. A great recording amp that still gets loud enough for small gigs if it is Mic. The closest sounding amp is a Vox AC-15. Has a similar sound, but the WEM is a little brighter. Tone Monster doesn't adequately describe this. It is just flat out bitchin. This WEM ER-15 is a"Players" amp. It is not completely original. We had our amp tech go through this amp and give it a complete service. All transformers and pots are original. Someone did some mods and we removed them and put it back to stock. We did replace some caps. One 12AX7 tube and some miscellaneous items. Why someone would mod one of the best sounding amps ever built is beyond me, but it is now correctly wired. So here's the deal. This is an early InVicta guitar amp made by Owen Duffy while he was located in New Jersey. It's a faithful reproduction of the famous Stand- tube amps of the 1950's. It's in mint condition. I only used it a few times. Never left the house. It's rated at 25 watts and has a Weber 15" speaker. Sounds incredible. The amp is very responsive to adjustments on the panel. It produces bell like chime tones. You can get some overdrive if pushed. Not a bad setting on the amp. Has a Weber rectifier tube. Makes any guitar sound good. Needs to find a owner who will use it. A Doug Sewell Original Wampus Cat is in the house! Built by Doug Sewell who later went to PRS where he is today. This was one of the first amps built when Doug was in business in Texas. A very RARE and HARD TO FIND amp that will go toe to toe with anything out there! It has been rumored that you have to pry these from the hands of Texas Tele pickers. Point to Point hand wired with high quality parts. Doug Sewell says. It basically takes a 5E5-a Fender Pro preamp and marries it to a 5E5 power section(cathode biased, split load phase inverter) I jacked up the voltage somewhat, which gave them a different character than most tweed amps. I used a’59 Bassman spec output transformer for a tighter low end. Etc, and did several other things as it developed and I discovered them. That amp now is called the“Wampus Cat” Classic, and is a lower plate ... morevoltage, higher current animal(near Class A) while retaining the circuit topology of the original. It is basically a 3-knob amp. Bass, Treble, and Volume. Also has a 3-position presence switch. Low-High Power switch under the chassis for taming this beast at lower volumes, and has a small toggle between the 6L6’s to switch from Cathode Bias to Fixed Bias. It has dual bias test points mounted to rear of chassis. The amp also has a switchable boost via a common footswitch inserted next to input jack on control panel. There is also a boost circuit which was originally designed to give full volume and tone controls were bypassed. The guy I purchased it from had it revoiced for pre-set amount of tonestack circuit detour- taking some. But not all of the signal outside the tonestack path when clicked on, making it much more usable. It uses standard foots switch(any will work) TUBES: Rectifier: Potato Smasher 5r4wgb– Doug’s choice. And it was inspired. Softens the wilder side of the amp just enough to calm the wild side.
