Stars like these were used in the construction of two or more story brick/stone buildings. 100 plus years ago, to stabilize and secure the brick/stone masonry. They were attached inside to the joist beams, thus securing the brick or stone siding together with the frame of the building. You may see them on many of the very old masonry constructed buildings in your town. Included in my photos you will see three examples of a star like this presently in use on the side of an old Hotel in my town. I have checked every book site I know of and could not find another example of this obviously very rare book. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal showing several hundred prints of the actual houses and buildings with their floor plans plus illustrations of decorating items consisting of furniture, wall coverings, drapes, rugs, and ornamental accessories. There are plans for every kind of farm or outbuilding you can imagine including some actual small factories. A 10 page section in the back shows illustrations of stoves, furnaces, lightning rods, hardware, roofing and other materials and also an illustrated colored paint chip page, all of these fore-mentioned items were mostly the new items available in 1883. Overall for over 130 years old this book is in very good condition. The title page is loose at the bottom half and otherwise it is well bound and clean with no writings, tears, foxing, and nothing is missing. This book cannot be fully appreciated unless every page is viewed in person. The hardcover shows a little minor soiling, wear to the extremities, and the spine is a little shaken. Please zoom

1929 SIGNED BOOKLET + DUST JACKET CASCADE RANGE Building COLUMBIA Gorge Highway
This is a paperback booklet with it's original dust jacket still in place. It is signed twice by the author of the book. Once on the flyleaf where he has praised the beauty of the gorge and how they protected the beauty while building the first highway up the gorge now called the Columbia River Highway. The second autograph is on the copyright page and the penmanship is outstanding. The booklet is titled'Romance of the Gateway' Through the Cascade Range and the picture on the front of the dust jacket is'Columbia Gorge, The arrow indicates the Columbia River Highway' The book is very interesting and full of history on the gorge. The condition is very good, the dustjacket has some edge wear and a little wear because it did it's job protecting the booklet which is in very good shape.
